Job Description


Job Summary

This position assists the college in its recruitment and retention initiatives. Specifically, it focuses on attracting and retaining students from traditionally underserved populations. This is achieved through various means, such as raising awareness about the college\'s degree programs and curriculum, organizing outreach and retention events, and providing programming and support for learning communities and at-risk student populations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate on-campus and off-campus events for recruitment, retention, and outreach for the College of Liberal Arts (CLA).
  • Contact and establish relationships with Community Colleges, campus resources and CLA Departments and Programs that facilitate outreach efforts.
  • Create new and promote existing student programing and student activities
  • Update and utilize data to evaluate and inform programing, events, and practices that support outreach activities.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Ability to carry out professionally complex assignments and independently plan and develop sound approaches and solutions and to execute various projects with specific deadlines to meet departments, program, faculty, and student needs. Ability to develop and deliver essential information through written and oral communication skills, and comfort with speaking in public settings. Ability to effectively use and operate computer software, E-mail, Internet, and university CMS, CS Link, and EAB systems, and social media. Ability to utilize knowledge of current principles and practices used in academic outreach programs/services, and the field of student development. Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with a variety of ethnically and culturally diverse program faculty, academic departments, the dean\'s office, and a variety of offices and individuals on and off campus. Ability to collaborate with a variety of constituencies including students, professional staff, faculty, offices, and programs. Ability to quickly gain expertise in high school graduation requirements, college eligibility requirements, university admissions requirements, community college transfer requirements, and university degree completion requirements. Ability to quickly gain expertise in the curricular offerings of multiple academic departments and programs.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university\'s commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Education and Experience

Equivalent to a bachelor\'s degree in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field and two years of professional experience in (Academic programming, academic outreach, or academic event planning) one of the student services program areas required. Master\'s Degree in Counseling, Education, or a related field may substitute one year of experience. working in a high school, community college, or university advising center preferred.

Physical Summary

Light work - Job involves some lifting of medium weight objects (10-20 pounds) and/or 10% - 20% of the job involves standing or walking.

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department\'s fiscal resources.

Hiring Range: $4,610 to $5,583 per month commensurate with candidate\'s education, experience, skills, and training.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,610 - $6,556 per month.

Time Base

1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.

Duration of Appointment

This is a temporary position until June 30, 2024, with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
