The City of Bellevue is seeking an Outdoor Recreation Program Lead to help assist with Outdoor Adventure Summer Camps for our Parks and Community Services TRACKS Outdoor Initiative.

The Outdoor Program Lead, will assist with Bike Camp, Bike, Hike and Swim Camp and Outdoor Adventure Camp for youth 10-13 years. This position is responsible for driving campers and leading daily activities of adventure summer camps. Activities include mountain biking, hiking, paddling and teambuilding. Camps run June 27-August 21, the ideal start date is mid-June. There is potential for on-going work after the summer season.

Schedule:

  • Camps runs Monday-Friday June 27-August 21 8:30am-4:30pm

  • Hours: 40+ hours per week June 27-August 21 (No camp July 3-7)
Pay Range: starting at $19 per hour depending on experience
Location: Tracks Camps run at various park locations throughout Bellevue including Lake Hills Community Park, Enatai Beach Park, Highland Community Center, and City Hall.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead daily activities of adventure summer camps, including mountain biking, hiking, team building and paddling.
  • Must be able to bike 5-10 miles a day and hike 3-4 miles a day.
  • Drive participants in a 15-passenger city van.
  • Administrative duties include communication with customers, parents and partners and managing participant paperwork.
  • Maintaining gear inventory.
Qualifications
  • Twenty-One (21) years of age or older preferred.
  • Experience facilitating outdoor travel with groups.
  • First Aid certification required with Wilderness First Responder or Wilderness First Aid certification a plus.
  • Experience working with youth and teenagers.
  • Familiarity with local lands a plus.
  • Knowledge of bike safety, rules of the road and general bike maintenance, including fixing flat tires.
  • Ability to multi-task, communicate and work well with others.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to deal with the physical challenges of the TRACKS Program.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Must have current Washington State drivers license, with a good driving record.
  • Candidate must pass criminal background check prior to being hired.

This is a Variable, non-exempt, non-union position.
Definition of a Variable Employee:
  • Average weekly hours cannot be determined at date of hire.
  • Hours may vary from week to week and are anticipated to be 28 hours per week or less.
  • NOTE: Will be considered full-time and eligible for medical coverage if hours average 30 hours per week or more over a 12-month measurement period (or 130 hours per month).
