This is a twelve-month faculty position responsible to the Dean of Allied Health. This position requires a commitment to teaching in a dynamic community college setting and the ability to successfully interact and respond to the broad ranging needs of an academically and culturally diverse campus setting. The instructor will provide instruction in the Practical Nursing Program

Examples of Duties

Essential Functions Statement(s):

  • Prepare lecture and class materials with the purpose of enhancing student learning.
  • Teach theory, skills lab, simulation lab, and clinical in the Practical Nursing program as assigned using methods and materials that promote achievement of the course objectives that are published in the syllabus and target the content in the NCLEX-PN Detailed Test Plan.
  • Evaluate Allied Health students\' skills performance in the skills lab, simulation lab and/or in clinical facilities for accuracy, quality, thoroughness, compliance with policies/procedures, and safety of patient care.
  • Maintain attendance, academic, and other records and submit all reports in a timely manner to the Dean of Allied Health, the Registrar and/or other designated personnel.
  • Advise and counsel Allied Health students as needed to aid them in compliance with policies/procedures, rules and guidelines of the college, the program and/or clinical facilities.
  • Tutor, mentor and remediate students in the Allied Health Programs as needed to aid them in achieving course objectives, minimum course passing standards and overall success in the program.
  • Assist students to meet course outcomes through mentoring and remediation as needed.
  • Abide by policies, procedures, rules and regulations of SAU Tech, the Allied Health Department, all clinical facilities, and the Arkansas State Board of Nursing.
  • Monitor Allied Health students for compliance with the policies and procedures of SAU Tech and the Allied Health Programs.
  • Assist in curriculum review and development.
  • Assist with/participate in recruitment efforts as needed when feasible.
  • Participate in college assessment and planning processes as assigned and serve as a member of appointed committees.
  • Communicate professionally and therapeutically in the classroom setting and clinical setting with students, co-workers, and facility personnel.
  • Provide and arrange clinical experiences and assignments that promote learning and relevant experiences for the students.
  • Work as a team member of the Allied Health Department to provide consistency and continuity in the training of students.
  • Attend and participate in departmental meetings.
  • Remain current in professional development to meet Arkansas State Board of Nursing\'s requirement for licensure renewal and to remain current in nursing education methods.
  • Assist in activities associated with the Pinning and Candle Lighting ceremony.
  • Assist in the planning and presentation of clinical pre- and post-conference activities that promote learning and critical thinking for the students.
  • Travel and work other shifts and weekends as needed.
  • Perform other duties as listed in the SAU Tech Faculty Policy and Procedure Manual.
  • Perform related responsibilities as required or assigned by the Dean of Allied Health.
Minimum/Preferred Qualifications

Minimum Qualifiations:

Education: Associate\'s Degree (two year college or technical school) Required, Field of Study:Nursing

Experience : 5 plus years of experience in RN

Certifications &Licenses: Must hold a valid unencumbered Arkansas Registered Nursing license.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor\'s Degree (four year college or technical school) Preferred, Field of Study:Nursing

Supplemental Information

The Practical Nursing Program Instructor has regular contact with agency/institution personnel, students, the general public and various program-related entities. Occasional work other than normal office hours and occasional travel may be required.
