ADJUNCT - FY24 NURSING, PSYCHIATRIC/MENTAL HEALTH INSTRUCTOR

POSITION
The LACCD is accepting applications for Adjunct Nursing (Psychiatric) Instructor positions at our colleges for the 2024 Academic School Year. The purpose of this posting is to create a pool of qualified applicants so that when there is an actual opening at a one of our colleges, the college can then begin their review process by reviewing those applicants. If you have applied to previous pools in this discipline, you will need to apply to this pool to continue to be considered.

The LACCD is seeking dynamic, motivated and diverse candidates for part-time faculty positions to engage and educate our students. Successful candidates will collaborate, communicate and work as professionals with students, staff, faculty and administrators. Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master\'s degree in Nursing; OR
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Nursing AND Master\'s in Health Education or Health Science; OR the equivalent;
  • AND:
\xc2\xb7 The minimum qualifications as set by the California Board of Registered Nursing, which requires:

At least one year of experience as a registered nurse providing direct patient care within the last five years, which can be met by:
  • One (1) year\'s continuous full time or its equivalent experience providing direct patient care as a registered nurse in the designated nursing area; or
  • One (1) academic year of registered nurse level clinical teaching experience in the designated nursing area or its equivalent that demonstrates clinical competency and completion of at least one year of experience teaching courses related to nursing or a course which includes practice in teaching nursing.
\xc2\xa7 A current California RN License.
  • A sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Pursuant to LACCD Board of Trustee\'s Policy 2900, all students and employees must be fully vaccinated or have an approved exemption. LACCD employees are required to provide their vaccination status in compliance with the LACCD Board of Trustees\' policy. Newly hired employees will be required to provide their vaccination status prior to starting a position or, at the latest, by their position start date.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledge of Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing Theory.
  • Experience in mental health acute Patient care and eligibility for California Board of Registered Nursing approval as an instructor in Mental Health Nursing.
  • Possess an excellent academic record and have experience teaching mental health at the community college level.
  • Possess the ability to assume responsibility and accountability for instruction, evaluation of students, and planning and implementing curriculum content in the content area.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to student success.
  • Demonstrate the understanding of, or have experience in, the use of student learning outcomes (SLO\'s) in promoting student success.
  • Possess a commitment to collegiality within the instructional environment by interacting effectively with colleagues and maintaining active participation in departmental meetings and committees.
DUTIES
The adjunct instructor should be prepared to teach a range of courses within the Nursing discipline, promoting engaging and inclusive educational environments that support student learning. The successful candidate will be culturally responsive in interactions with students, faculty, staff, and community members who span a diverse range of languages, nationalities and ethnicities, socio-economic levels, ages, identities, abilities and educational experiences.

COMPENSATION

The salary schedule for adjunct instructors begins at $85.01 per standard hour, plus an office hour differential of $19.91 per hour for classroom assignments. Applicants with a doctoral degree are eligible for a doctoral differential.
