Job Summary:
The
Nurse Practitioner (NP)
provides comprehensive, high-quality care in both
Urgent Care
and
Infusion Center
settings. This dual role combines management of acute and minor illnesses, injuries, and infections with oversight and administration of in-house
infusion therapies
(e.g., IV hydration, iron replacement, antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, and vitamin infusions).
The NP functions autonomously within their scope of practice while collaborating with physicians, nurses, and pharmacy personnel to ensure safe, efficient, and compassionate care, emphasizing patient satisfaction, clinical excellence, and compliance with regulatory standards.
Urgent Care Clinical Duties:
Perform comprehensive histories and physical examinations for patients of all ages.
Diagnose and manage acute illnesses and injuries, including respiratory, musculoskeletal, dermatologic, and infectious conditions.
Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as laboratory studies, X-rays, and EKGs.
Prescribe medications and therapies in accordance with Ohio state law and collaborative practice agreements.
Perform common urgent care procedures, including suturing, wound care, splinting, incision and drainage, and foreign body removal.
Provide patient education, counseling, and discharge instructions with attention to follow-up care and health literacy.
Infusion Center Duties:
Assess and evaluate patients for infusion therapy suitability and medical necessity.
Initiate, monitor, and discontinue IV infusions (hydration, iron, antibiotics, anti-nausea, anti-inflammatory, and vitamin therapies).
Recognize and manage infusion-related reactions and complications following established protocols.
Collaborate closely with nursing and pharmacy teams for preparation, verification, and administration of infusion medications.
Maintain adherence to aseptic technique and monitor patients for safety and therapeutic response.
Document infusion orders, patient progress, and outcomes accurately in the electronic health record.
Support compliance with infusion therapy policies, protocols, and quality standards.
Clinical Documentation & Compliance:
Accurately and promptly chart all patient encounters in the EMR (e.g., Kareo, DrChrono, or equivalent).
Comply with
HIPAA, OSHA, CLIA, CDC, and Ohio Board of Nursing
standards.
Participate in internal quality improvement, compliance, and peer review programs.
Utilize evidence-based resources such as
UpToDate
,
AAFP
,
ACEP
,
UCA
, and
CDC
guidelines.
Maintain familiarity with clinical references, including:
Urgent Care Medicine(David & Greenwald)

Skills & Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited
Nurse Practitioner program
with current national certification (NP-C, FNP, AGNP, or equivalent).
Active
Ohio NP license
with prescriptive authority.
Minimum
1-2 years of experience
in urgent care, emergency medicine, family practice, or infusion therapy preferred.
Strong diagnostic and procedural skills; ability to manage both acute and infusion-related cases.
Required certifications:
BLS and
ACLS
Preferred certifications:
PALS, DOT

POCUS (Point-of-Care Ultrasound)

Excellent communication, clinical judgment, and independent decision-making skills.
Preferred Experience:
Experience in urgent care, emergency medicine, or infusion therapy settings.
Proficiency in managing common infusion treatments (Iron, Toradol, Zofran, Hydration, Antibiotics, etc.).
Familiarity with urgent care workflows and interdepartmental collaboration with an onsite pharmacy and infusion center.
Knowledge (or willing to learn)
ICD-10

coding for urgent care and infusion visits.
