Summary Statement

This position reports to the Director of the Office of\\r\ Preparedness. The Nurse Consultant Position serves as the subject matter expert\\r\ for the medical aspects of disaster preparedness, response, and recovery. The\\r\ position will coordinate medical care during shelter activations and other\\r\ disaster functions. The Nurse Consultant will also assist in the development of\\r\ disaster training, provide training to staff and volunteers, and assist the\\r\ Office of the Medical Director with developing sheltering medical protocols.\\r\ This position will be assigned a State Health Operations Center role and may\\r\ work alternate locations and hours during a disaster.\\r\

Essential Functions

Independently manages and provides direct care to a group of patients with needs in a specialty area.\\r\ Advises public health groups and members of the public health care team on matters related to nursing services and health care.\\r\ Analyzes nursing techniques and recommends modifications based on state-of-the-art technological knowledge.\xef\xbf\xbdServes as resource nurse and point-of-contact for a specialty area developing the overall nursing plan for maintaining current nursing practice in that specialty.\\r\ Assists public health nursing services in developing and carrying out staff education programs.\xef\xbf\xbdPrepares educational materials and assists in planning and developing health and educational programs for community groups.\\r\ Provides assistance in developing guidelines and manuals for specific aspects of nursing services.\xef\xbf\xbdFormulates standards of nursing practice in a specialty area and ensures quality assurance and compliance.\\r\ Prepares or furnishes data for articles and lectures and participates in surveys and research studies.\\r\ Conducts workshops, conferences, and seminars in the specialty and may be required to speak before special interest groups, community organizations, medical and health care groups, or the general public.\\r\ Prepares a variety of records, reports, and summaries in support of program planning, organization, implementation and evaluation.\\r\ May be required to train student nurses and other health care team members in the incumbent\'s specialized area of nursing.\\r\ May serve on a variety of committees, boards or commissions representing the Department as the expert in a specialized area of nursing.\\r\ Assigns, reviews and evaluates the work of staff assigned to specialty program, coordinates and may oversee the work of health care team members providing program services. \\r\ \\r\ \\r\

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Nurse Consultant\\r\ Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:\\r\ \\r\ \\r\ \\r\ Possession of a Master\'s degree or higher in Medical Surgical, Psychiatric, Gerontology, Public Health, Community Health, Health Promotion, Women\'s Health, Emergency Services/Management, Child Health or related specialty area\\r\ Possession of a Delaware Registered Nurse license OR multi-state compact license.\\r\ \\r\

Conditions of Hire

This position is Limited Term for up to 2\xef\xbf\xbdyears and\xef\xbf\xbdmay be extended should funding be available.\\r\ \\r\ Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
