Job Title: Crisis Certified Peer Specialist (CPS)
Department: Justice and Crisis Response Unit
FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt - Full-time

Reports To: Clinical Care Coordinator Lead


Position Summary


Peer Specialist self-identify as a present or former client of mental health or substance use services OR self identifies as a person in recovery from mental health or substance use disorder. Peer specialist will provide peer support to persons served with a variety of behavioral health conditions within a trauma-informed behavioral health care setting. With an emphasis on self-directed recovery and the harm reduction model the peer specialist will act as liaison between the person served and the referral source.

Essential Functions

As a Peer Specialist, you are responsible for emphasizing the acquisition, development and expansion of recovery skills needed to fully engage in recovery. You will:
  • Assist participants in developing treatment plans.
  • Complete regular communication with referral sources/guardians regarding progress, transition planning, and pertinent clinical issues and documentation.
  • Participate in staffing to assure continuity of care.
  • Make or assist in outside referral of issues not able to be addressed within the treatment milieu.
  • Assist in scheduling of treatment and arranging transportation.
  • Represent the agency in a professional manner.


Education, Experience and Skills Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • MO Class E or state equivalent driver\'s license (Required).
  • The individual must pass a State of Missouri approved certification examination within six months.
  • Position uses various platforms such as on-site face to face visits, conference calls, messaging, email for communication with team.
  • Must be flexible with shift, willing to move hours, work weekends and overtime as needed to ensure care coordination and service referral is completed.
