Job Responsibilities



30% Under administrative direction, serves as the Network / Server Supervisor of the Security Compliance Unit for the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT) / Illinois State Police (ISP):
  • Coordinates projects for Security, Server, and Network personnel, provides hardware and software technical support for Illinois State Police.
  • Coordinates maintenance and installation of highly complex environments between on premises, virtual and cloud-based assets used by Illinois Stale Police and law enforcement community.
  • Serves as a technical coordinator between DoIT and DoIT/ISP staff to implement Security and Infrastructure assets in compliance with Statewide direction in support of public safety and Illinois law enforcement community.
  • Coordinates security and technical assets to support ISP and law enforcement missions.
  • Implements policy regarding security, technical support, and device usage.
  • Utilizes Windows Server, Windows 10, Microsoft Project, SDDC and CISCO Networking Equipment on Configurations in performance of duties.
  • Works outside of normal business hours to meet deadlines or address critical issues, as necessary.


20% Provides technical analysis in the planning, installation, and support of computer assets located on local and area wide networks, including cloud assets:
  • Coordinates maintenance and installation of highly complex environments, including on premises, virtual, and cloud-based assets used by ISP and law enforcement community.


15% Serves as a working supervisor:
  • Assigns and reviews work
  • Provides guidance and training to assigned staff
  • Counsels staff regarding work performance
  • Reassigns staff to meet day-to-day operating needs
  • Establishes annual goals and objectives
  • Approves time off
  • Prepares and signs performance evaluations

10% Coordinates maintenance, installation, and support of vendor supplied, and user written communications software used by ISP and the law enforcement community:
  • Coordinates and monitors the backup and recovery process for local area network-based servers used within the ISP.


10% Coordinates network configuration and installation with DoIT enterprise and DoIT/ISP Network technicians for use with ISP to ensure compatibility with the existing architecture while promoting statewide security posture in accordance with the appropriate level of security required by the system:
  • Assists with local area network disaster/recovery documentation and planning, making decisions on behalf of the DoIT/ISP in accordance with Statewide direction set by DoIT.


10% Evaluates system performance and cost of services:
  • Recommends upgrades or services to facilitate the needs of ISP and the Illinois Law Enforcement Community.

5% Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications


1. Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, preferably with courses in computer science or related Information Technology field.
2. Requires three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a management information systems environment.

Special Skills


1. Requires (3) years of professional experience with Windows Server and Windows 10.
2. Requires (3) years of professional experience with SDDC and CISCO Networking Equipment on Configurations.
3. Requires three (3) years of professional experience managing projects utilizing project management techniques and process.
4. Three (3) years of professional experience utilizing project management tools such as Microsoft Project or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)


1. Three (3) years of professional experience working with Windows Server and Windows 10.
2. Three (3) years of professional experience with SDDC and CISCO Networking Equipment on Configurations.
3. Requires three (3) years of professional experience managing projects utilizing project management techniques and process.
4. Three (3) years of professional experience utilizing project management tools such as Microsoft Project or equivalent.
5. Three (3) years of supervisory experience.
6. Ability to coordinate the activities of a multi-level team on complex projects to achieve desired results.
7. Ability to analyze data logically and exercise sound judgment in defining and evaluating problems of an operational or procedural nature.
8. Ability to gain and maintain effective working relationships with agency officials, associates, vendors, clients and others.
9. Developed verbal and written communications skills to present technical information to others with clarity and precision.
