JOB DESCRIPTION The Office of Employee Health & Wellness, Workers\xe2\x80\x99 Compensation is responsible for the overall management of the State\xe2\x80\x99s self-insured workers\xe2\x80\x99 compensation program. Through comprehensive partnerships and initiatives, we assist in the prevention of workplace injuries and provide the necessary services such as medical care and compensation to injured State of Maine employees.
This is a professional position that is responsible for the complete day to day management of all workers\xe2\x80\x99 compensation claims with work in reviewing, developing, validating, managing and resolving State of Maine employee workers\xe2\x80\x99 compensation claims. Work also includes advising and training department/agency management on workers\' compensation procedures and issues to include safety and prevention techniques.
TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES (A position may not be assigned all the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all the duties that may be assigned):

  • Manages individual State of Maine employee workers\' compensation claims from initial review to final resolution.
  • Conducts thorough investigations of workers\xe2\x80\x99 compensation claims.
  • Initiates, assigns, and manages claim contact with legal counsel and other vendors.
  • Develops the State of Maine\'s position on claims.
  • Prepares and presents the State of Maine\xe2\x80\x99s defense on contested claims.
  • Serves as a link between all Statewide agencies.
  • Performs quarterly reviews with departments.
  • Oversees, approves, and directs workers compensation payments to employees.
  • Represents State of Maine Departments at workers\xe2\x80\x99 compensation mediations and hearings.
  • Manages third party liens and negotiates settlements.
  • Develops and provides training.
  • Manages contracts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education, training, and/or experience which provides a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of workers\xe2\x80\x99 compensation claims management and the interplay of those benefits with various employment laws and rules such as FMLA, ADA, terminations and contract benefits. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in workers\xe2\x80\x99 compensation claims management, immediate claims processing, customer service including contact with the public and vendors. Proficiency in Microsoft office including Excel, Word, Power Point, Teams and Outlook.
