Position Purpose/Summary

The Network Voice Engineer is committed to providing the highest quality of voice service to the communities, customers, and employees we serve by designing, managing, and maintaining voice telecommunications infrastructure and its related software, such as call management systems, VoIP, video conferencing, voice mail, and other telephony and network applications. They oversee the performance of voice systems and conduct traffic analysis and capacity planning for quality-of-service functions. The Network Voice Engineer also supports and designs customer hosted services utilizing VOIP transport and provides Tier 2/3 support for Network Sales Engineering and the Sales Department.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Evaluate existing capabilities and aid in planning guidelines to tap emerging trends in cloud, VoIP, mobility solutions and managed services.
  • Develop, and implement policies, measures, and training plans for the administration of telecommunication systems.
  • Drives standards and specifications for voice communication equipment replacements and new deployments.
  • Designs, deploys, configures, and maintains voice network infrastructure, including routers, session border controllers, telecommunication switches and firewalls.
  • Devise a plan for and arrange preemptive maintenance and upgrades for equipment and software of voice systems.
  • Oversee performance and capacity issues for telecommunications traffic so that telecommunications systems are operating without any downtimes.
  • Provide support for telecommunications switches, voice gateways, and firewall infrastructure in relation to VoIP transport for external and internal customers.
  • Monitor and update key performance indicators for reporting to senior leadership team members.
  • Partner with other technical team members for safe and properly installation of wiring, cabling, and other electrical equipment.
  • Provide voice training to engineering professionals and support to others on the network team.
  • Performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Knowledge, Abilities, & Skills for Success
  • Advanced knowledge of maintaining and troubleshooting VOIP communication systems.
  • Ability to face off to business and technical stakeholders within the business for operational, project and deployment activities have an appreciation of the risk associated with a voice environment and the regulatory controls within it.
  • Knowledge of concepts, terminology, and operations of a wide range of communications media (computer and telephone networks, satellite, fiber, wireless).
  • Knowledge of different types of VOIP protocols and transport methods (SIP, SRTP, MGCP, H.323, MPLS, DNS, DHCP,RTP)
  • Knowledge of how traffic flows across the network (TCP, UDP, TLS and Internet Protocol [IP], Open System Interconnection Model [OSI].
  • Knowledge of local area and wide area networking principles and concepts including bandwidth management and quality of service (QoS).
  • Knowledge of network systems management principles, models, methods (e.g., end-to-end systems performance monitoring), and tools.
  • Experience authoring technical documents (MOPs, detailed design documents, knowledge base documentation).
  • Skill in analyzing network traffic capacity and performance characteristics. Specific knowledge of using performance and analysis capabilities within SolarWinds highly desired.
  • Skill in configuring and utilizing network and voice protection components (e.g., Session Border Controllers, Firewalls, VPNs).
  • Working knowledge of multimedia and virtualization technologies.
  • Experience with Circuit ordering (ASRs) / RFC / DID/DOD.
  • Experience troubleshooting network voice issues.
Qualifications

At a minimum, the Network Voice Engineer must have:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in computer science, information technology, or related field or minimum of 5 years of working experience in the telecom field at an engineering level.
  • Current Cisco or Metaswitch Voice certifications CCVP strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience with administering or supporting call management platforms required.
  • Experience working in large enterprise voice networks is desired.
  • Experience working with hosted voice platforms required.
