Job Description

The National Fleet Manager is responsible for overseeing and ensuring compliance with all Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), and state regulatory requirements across the company's fleet operations. With approximately 500 fleet assets operating in 12 states, this role will lead the development, implementation, and management of policies and programs to maintain the highest standards of safety, regulatory compliance, and risk management. The National Fleet Manager will work closely with Operations, Safety, and HR teams to mitigate risk, improve processes, and support safe and compliant transportation activities across all 50 locations.

This is a 100% in-office position located in Greenville, SC.

Key Responsibilities

Monitor, interpret, and implement DOT, FMCSA, and state transportation regulations, ensuring ongoing compliance. Maintain company's DOT and FMCSA registrations, permits, and records. Oversee driver qualification files, drug and alcohol testing programs, medical certifications, hours of service (HOS) compliance, and ELD administration. Ensure vehicle inspection, maintenance, and repair records are accurate and compliant. Partner with the Safety Department to reduce violations, accidents, and incidents. Conduct audits of driver logs, vehicle inspections, and maintenance records; implement corrective action plans as needed. Lead training and awareness programs for drivers, managers, and staff on DOT requirements and best practices. Investigate compliance-related incidents and develop strategies to prevent recurrence. Support local management in ensuring preventive maintenance schedules and DVIR compliance for ~700 assets. Provide guidance and subject matter expertise to local management and leadership. Manage compliance reporting, including CSA scores, audit results, and trend analysis, for senior leadership. Serve as the company liaison during DOT or state compliance reviews, audits, and inspections. Collaborate with Legal, HR, and Operations to resolve compliance matters.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Business, Transportation Management, Safety, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered. Minimum 5+ years of DOT/Fleet compliance experience with a large fleet; multi-state and multi-DOT number experience strongly preferred. Strong knowledge of FMCSA regulations, CSA scoring, ELD systems, HOS rules, and fleet safety best practices. Experience with DOT audits, driver qualification management, and accident/incident investigations. Travel up to 50% of the time. Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Proficiency with compliance software, fleet management systems, and Microsoft Office Suite. Demonstrated leadership and ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
