Current Vacancy:
There is one (1) vacancy with the Royal Hawaiian Band. This position performs a key role or carries out one or more special assignments of considerable difficulty and scope within the band; and performs other related duties as required. This position requires performing as a vocal soloist singing Hawaiian numbers with the Glee Club and Band, emceeing, and performing on accompanying instrument(s) of specialty in public performances to include the ability and experience in arranging three part Hawaiian vocal harmonies. In addition, the position requires knowledge and experience in the setup and operation of sound reinforcement systems with regards to wind ensemble and Hawaiian ensemble presentations.

Special Work Requirements:
1. Work irregular hours, weekends, holidays and travel to neighbor islands and abroad on concert tours.
2. Musicians are responsible for transporting to and from the equipment truck to the performance and/or rehearsal sites individual music instruments, music pouch with music stand, and chair on a daily basis.
3. March in approximately 30 parades annually, the longest being appr. 5 miles in length.
4. Most parades and a major portion of the performances are performed outdoors exposed to the sun, wind and occasional rain.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor\'s degree in music which demonstrates the ability to competently play the assigned instrument at the sixth level of difficulty.

Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionally-accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program, evidence of comparability, or an original transcript.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: This position will be assigned to play a multitude of instruments typically used in Hawaiian music with sixth level proficiency. These instruments include:

  • Piano
  • Ukulele
  • Bass
  • Steel guitar and/or Acoustic or Electric guitar
In addition, the position is responsible for performing as a vocal soloist of Hawaiian song, to include Hawaiian Oli, while performing on the accompanying instrument(s).

To meet the Training and Experience requirement of this position, you must be proficient in three of the above listed instruments and have professional experience singing and performing Hawaiian songs.

LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
1. Possession of an appropriate valid driver\'s license (Type 3/automobile), prior to appointment.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE EVALUATION:
