Farmers Bank of Kansas City is growing and in need of a highly motivated, experienced Underwriting Manager. As a new member of our management team, the Underwriting Manager will work on-site to evaluate our pipeline of residential loan application packages and determine program eligibility and credit worthiness of the consumer.
Beyond producing high-quality loans and managing priorities, our goal is to build a product that will ultimately reduce our costs internally to pass that savings along to our customers. To do this, we need you to wear many hats, ranging from a visionary sitting at the management table by improving the complex mortgage process; a data analyst uncovering how to make the most impact; to a problem solver working with highly skilled internal and external partners to resolve technical and operational challenges.
Essential Functions include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Lead a team of internal underwriters who will underwrite and decision agency conforming, non-conforming, and all government residential mortgage loans.
Provide oversight into any vendors involved in underwriting.
Manage overall pipeline priorities and achieve team goals.
Underwrite residential mortgage loans in accordance with FNMA, FHLMC, VA, or portfolio guidelines while also adhering to internal guidelines ensuring compliance with company and investor standards.
Review and analyze borrower profiles, credit reports, title reports, income documentation and assets, including complex business returns.
Assist with the Pre-Closing/Pre-Funding Quality Control processes.
Review and provide Underwriting's Post Closing QC responses and rebuttals.
Review appraisals for accurate property valuation.
Demonstrate proficiency in automated underwriting applications and ability to assess results.
Manage individual pipeline daily by completing new underwriting reviews, condition reviews and other underwriting tasks within established turn times.
Communicate with processing and sales to provide updates, clarification on outstanding conditions and deficiencies identified on loans, and to assist in interpreting underwriting guidelines.
Works with the post-closing team to resolve any issues.
Provide loan scenario support to sales and processing teams.
Stay abreast of all agency guideline and regulatory changes, and communicate changes internally.

Minimum 7 years recent full time Mortgage Underwriting experience (Required)
Proficiency with DU and LP, FHA Connection and VA Portal
Knowledge of FHMA, FHLMC, FHA and VA guidelines
Self-starter, self-reliant, dependable, ability to work within and meet specific time restraints
Flexibility in decision making with strong problem-solving skills
