We are seeking a dedicated and nurturing Classroom Assistant to support our educational team in fostering a positive and engaging learning environment for young children. The ideal candidate will ensure a positive school climate, build relationships, and achieve learning with students by working in tandem with the Montessori Lead Guide to create a nurturing and supportive environment that is consistent with the Montessori Children's House model.
Responsibilities
Consistent with the Montessori pedagogy, promote freedom with responsibility to develop independence, confidence, and self-regulation in our students
Provide personalized attention and support with skill development, self-regulation, and executive functioning skills as advised by the Lead Guides using Montessori materials and pedagogy
Create small group lessons to build children's skill/fluency practice using Montessori reading principles
Serve as Lead Guide in the absence of Lead Guide
Collaborate to plan and deliver Practical Life and Sensorial instruction, including managing the seasonal areas of the classroom and providing mini art and music lessons
Collaborate with Seed to Table coordinator to lead lessons and class extensions connected to the school's Seed to Table program for food and greening education
Integrate the development of social skills and Montessori grace and courtesy throughout the day
Model the Montessori principle of the prepared environment by maintaining a well-organized, clean, and aesthetically pleasing Montessori classroom environment, including setting up and arranging Montessori materials
With the Lead Guide, observe children as part of the Montessori child study process to document the progress, strengths, and areas for improvement of each child, ensuring accurate and timely records are maintained
Consistently model the school's unique mission implement the school's commitments, pillars, and values
Guide students in using Conscious Discipline and mindfulness tools
Provide Montessori-based peer mediation and conflict resolution
Design and implement developmentally appropriate, Montessori-aligned afternoon nap and rest time
Redirect children to the classroom peace area when needed and guide students in use of peace tools
Liaise with families as the primary communicator regarding toilet learning for our three year-olds
Greet students by name, build trusting relationships, and get to know their strengths, interests, and needs ? Support with morning arrival and afternoon dismissal, according to stations and schedule, ensuring close supervision for students to enter and exit safely
Guide and encourage children to work independently
Provide supervision, structure, and engagement to students during classroom coverage, lunch, specials, etc. as assigned ? Monitor to ensure a safe school environment (hallway, bathroom, meal time, outside, transitions, sanitizing) ? Conduct regular hallway sweeps and monitoring to ensure a safe school environment (hallway, bathroom, meal time, outside, transitions, arrival-dismissal waiting areas) throughout the school day
Engage in Montessori pathway professional development, engage in year-long community of practice, and participate in ongoing coaching and mentoring
Consistently use professional verbal and written communication skills
Maintain confidentiality regarding children and their families, adhering to professional, ethical standards
Attend Parent-Teacher conferences
Additional duties as requested
Qualifications:
Montessori Experience, Childcare Development Associate credential (at minimum), Associate's or Bachelor's Degree, experience working with children, and ability to work in a diverse community with joyfully engaged learners. Incumbents in this position will receive specialized and personalized training including Montessori Assistant Guide training, within 90 days, professional development in the science of reading and early math, and will complete the BMPCS Montessori professional pathway with Montessori accredited partners(approximately 75 hours), which includes Montessori coaching and mentoring. If applicable, incumbents will demonstrate progress towards completing their associate's or undergraduate degree in early childhood education or a related field.
