We are a dermatology office with one Mohs micrographic surgeon and a small number of staff. Our focus is on providing excellent medical care in a professional and friendly environment. We are interested in a candidate that has experience as a Mohs Histology Technician.
Histology Technicians perform histology procedures of processing, embedding, cutting, and staining of tissue specimens for evaluation and diagnosis by the Mohs surgeon. The Mohs Technician assists the physician during Mohs surgery and plays a critical role in the Mohs micrographic surgery process. This role is vital in the field of dermatology oncology, contributing greatly to the success of the Mohs micrographic surgery and successful patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare, process and stain tissue specimens taken during Mohs surgery to ensure accurate histological analysis by the physician.
- Maintain accurate records of specimens, procedures completed and results to ensure compliance with CLIA regulations.
- Maintain high standards of quality control in the preparation of histological slides, ensuring reliability and accuracy in results.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring all tools and equipment are functioning properly and safely.
- Provide medical administrative support, such as maintaining patient records using an Electronic Health Record (EHR) iPad-based system for charting
Qualifications:
- Due to the complex nature of this position, a minimum of an Associates' degree in a Health/Science-related program or commensurate experience is required.
- Prior experience in a laboratory setting, particularly in histology or pathology, is advantageous. Experience specifically in Mohs surgery is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail, proficiency in histological techniques and the ability to work efficiently under pressure are essential.
Skills:
- Technical proficiency: Expertise in histological techniques, including embedding, cutting and staining tissue samples.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to strictly maintain patient privacy is imperative
- Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with the Mohs surgeon and other clinical staff.
- Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively within a healthcare team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
