In this role, you will serve as a valuable point of contact for AMHS employees to help assist users with hardware/software trouble shooting and support.

The working environment you can expect:
Part-time telework may be an option for this position.

Position will have a rotational on-call requirement and will be provided a state-paid cell phone.

Position will require periodic travel to marine vessels and shoreside terminals to provide equipment installation or service troubleshooting assistance in collaboration with OIT and third-party vendors.

What you will be doing:
DOT&PF is recruiting for a full-time, long-term, nonpermanent position. This position will accrue personal leave, enjoy 11 paid holidays a year, as well as have the option of health insurance and other benefits.

Incumbent will provide technology support services primarily for the AK Marine Highway System (AMHS) within the Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF).

This position works independently or under general guidance from a Lead Tech or Specialist to troubleshoot, analyze, track and resolve hardware and software problems. This includes Windows Desktop Platforms, Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Teams, VoIP Phones, Desktop computers, Laptops & Tablets, Printers/MFP\xe2\x80\x99s, Cabling, Imaging, Configuring & Deploying Workstations, Mobile Devices and other technologies.

You will work closely with others to develop an understanding of the techniques and procedures for troubleshooting desktop computers, networks, printers and peripheral devices; become familiar with DOT&PF and OIT unique technical support and service delivery expectations across both OIT and DOT&PF technology Service Catalog; become proficient in the use of diagnostic tools and procedures; and utilize remote access tools as appropriate to remotely diagnose and resolve issues.

Because you will occasionally be working on an Alaska state ferry, you must be eligible to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) which will require passing a background check.

Who we are looking for:
Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with the core competencies of:
  • Customer Service: skills, ability, and commitment to communicate with non-technical and technical staff in a professional and courteous manner; prepare simple instructions for end-users to follow.
  • Detail oriented: able to recognize minor details.
  • Experience using computers, software applications, and automated systems to accomplish work. (i.e., desktop tools, MS Office Suite, spreadsheets, helpdesk ticketing, Adobe, email, browsers, manage user accounts, remote tools, and imaging software.)
  • Experience providing technical support, such as troubleshooting and resolving computer hardware and software related problems, for an IT help desk.
  • Working knowledge of networked printers.

Minimum Qualifications
One year of experience in which the primary focus was on network installations, maintenance and trouble-shooting services for microcomputers, their peripherals and/or non-complex computer networks.
OR
An Associate\'s degree from an accredited college in computer science, computer networking, electrical engineering, information systems, data communication, or a closely related field.
OR
Professional, undergraduate, and/or military certification that includes training in computer troubleshooting, networking, network security, interconnected devices, and server installation and configuration.

TRANSPORTATION WORKER IDENTIFICATION CREDENTIAL (TWIC)

Please be aware - this position requires the applicant (at their expense) to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) in compliance with federal regulations pertaining to certain maritime port facilities. All terminal employees are required to obtain a TWIC in order to work in certain restricted areas of the terminals.

If you are selected for the position, you will be required to immediately enroll/apply for the required TWIC card. The applicant selected for the position must have their TWIC card in hand in order to be unescorted within a restricted or secure area of the terminal facility.
