Under immediate supervision, a Meter Reader performs routine work in the reading of meters for electrical and/or water consumption, and records volumes used by residential and commercial consumers.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Walks or drives over established routes and takes readings of meter dials Inspects meters for defects, damage and unauthorized connections Indicates irregularities on forms for necessary action Checks reading to locate abnormal consumption and records reason for fluctuations Assigns control numbers on all meter cards used in routing consumers Prepares daily report as required Performs other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of meter reading procedures Knowledge of the geography and street locations of the island Knowledge of the hazards of the trade and precautions to be observed Ability to verbally express oneself in a clear and concise manner Ability to write legibly and follow moderately complex written and oral instructions Ability to make simple arithmetical computations rapidly and accurately Ability to meet and deal tactfully with the public Must possess a valid V.I. driver's license.

Education & Experience

High school diploma, or equivalent, including courses in the electrical trade.
