Position Functions

The Medication Technician is primarily responsible for properly administering, documenting, and
maintaining medication inventory while observing and maintaining the requirements of security within the Pennington
County Jail.
Administer prescribed treatment and medication to inmate/client at any Sheriff's Office facility as needed and
medically required within licensing authorization. Ensure medications are properly stored, ordered, and available for nursing staff.
Push a medication cart between locations within the Jail.
Recognize and report the signs and symptoms of a potentially emergent situation.
Maintain accountability and properly document all medication administered to facility specifications.
Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality of medical records.
Attend meetings and trainings as required.
Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Maintain compliance with all county policies and procedures.

Qualifications
------------------
Education and/or Experience Required:
High School Diploma or GED.
At least 18 years of age.
Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications.
Preference will be given to those with healthcare experience.
Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and pre-employment drug screen.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid South Dakota Driver's License within 90 days of moving to South
Dakota.

Working Environment:
Work is typically performed indoors in a correctional facility. This is a potentially volatile environment with high
accountability. This position may be exposed to contagious or infectious diseases or irritating chemicals.
Work requires the use of protective devices, such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
This position will include close interaction with inmates.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other
federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and quantitative productivity standards. Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and
local standards. Must be able to lift and carry up to 100 pounds.
Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone and in person.
Ability to push/pull a medication cart for up to four hours per shift. When fully loaded, the medication cart
weights approximately 200 pounds. Ability to sit, stand, stoop, bend, crouch and lift light objects.
Must be able to enter data and operate a phone.
Ability to respond to emergent situations, including the ability to run, restrain aggressive or suicidal individuals
and manipulate restraint tools.
