The Medical Social Worker is a qualified professional that provides skilled social services to patients and their families. The incumbent will perform the medical social work services in accordance with the physician\xe2\x80\x99s orders, plan of care, and are coordinated with other team members. The purpose of this position is to provide initial psychosocial evaluations, ongoing psychological counseling, direct casework services, bereavement services, and community education outreach. The Hospice Social Worker is an integral part of the hospice inter-disciplinary team (IDT).

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• EDUCATION:
• Master\xe2\x80\x99s Degree or Doctoral Degree in social work from a school of social work accredited by the Council of Social Work Education; or
• Has a baccalaureate degree in social work from an institution accredited by the Council on Social Work Education; or a baccalaureate degree in psychology, sociology, or other field related to social work and is supervised by a MSW and has 1 year of social work experience in a healthcare setting; or
• Has a baccalaureate degree from a school of social work accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, is employed by the Hospice Agency before December 2, 2008, and is not required to be supervised by a MSW.

• EXPERIENCE: A demonstrated ability in casework, counseling and group work, including 2 years of clinical work experience preferably in a healthcare setting or hospice.

• CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE: Current State license as a Medical Social Worker, with the exception those who are working for the Oklahoma Department of Human Services, the Oklahoma Department of Health, or an Agency Licensed by the Oklahoma Department of Health.

• SKILLS:
• Social work skills as defined as generally accepted social work standards
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong interpersonal skills
• Demonstrates effective time management skills by completing patient assignment within projected time frame and arriving to appointments on schedule.
• Demonstrates knowledge requirements of third-party payer, by identifying and reporting potential payment/coverage problems to the appropriate Patient Care Manager. (This includes but is not limited to Medicare, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Medicaid, and other 3rd party companies.).
• Contributes effectively to the development of fellow social workers (BSW) in social work knowledge, values, skills and ethics.
