Salary: Entry Level: $50,196.00 per year ($4,183.00 per month, $24.13 per hour), HE-05, BU:10

Full Performance: $54,252.00 per year ($4,521.00 per month, $26.08 per hour), HE-07, BU:10

At Hilo Medical Center, a nationally-recognized "Top Performing" hospital is currently seeking a Medical Assistant-Entry Level or Full Performance for our busy Plastic Surgery department. This position works in an outpatient clinic or hospital and assists the clinical licensed staff by performing a variety of tasks to ensure that necessary patient care and related technical work are provided and performs other related duties as assigned.

Hilo is located on the east side of the island of Hawaii, and has a quaint old-Hawaiian, small town atmosphere. The hospital staff is community-oriented. It is home to the Hawaii Community College, University of Hawaii, several excellent schools and convenient shopping.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experiences are credited based on a 40-hour work week.

PREREQUISITE QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED FOR THE ENTRY LEVEL

Experience and Essential Knowledge and Abilities: One (1) year of work experience which involved independently observing and reporting a variety of physical and/or mental symptoms and conditions and implementing care and/or treatment procedures for a case load of patients. Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of basic clinical skills (i.e., taking vital signs, measuring output, recognition of abnormal signs and symptoms, etc.); first aid; patients\xe2\x80\x99 rights; universal precautions; infection control; body mechanics\xe2\x80\x99; basic medical terminology; and the ability to read, write, speak and understand simple sentences in English; follow oral and written instructions precisely; and assist in providing paraprofessional nursing care to patient receiving care on an outpatient basis. Clinic experience preferred.

SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED: Completion of a professional nursing curriculum from an accredited school substitutes for the experience required for the entry level.

CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:
  • Current Medical Assistant Certification (CCMA) from the National Healthcare Association (NHA);
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA);
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from the American Medical Technologists (AMT); or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT).
Basic Life Support (BLS) in Health Care Provider (adult, child and infant) must be obtained within six (6) months of employment. Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) in Health Care Provider (adult, child and infant) is preferred. Please submit copy of certification with the application.

PREREQUISITE QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED FOR THE FULL PERFORMANCE LEVEL

In addition to the Entry Level Qualifications, Experience and Essential Knowledge and AbilitIes: One (1) year of progressively responsible work experience as a Medical Assistant in an Outpatient Clinic or similar health institution setting assisting professional licensed clinical staff in the provision of care to outpatient patients. Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of emergency medical practices, techniques and procedures; functional anatomy and human physiology.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to handle emergency situations in a calm manner; ability to communicate and work effectively with distraught or agitated individuals.

Must be available to work shifts, weekends and holidays, based on hospital operations (services are provided 24/7

MEDICAL REQUIREMENT: Offers of employment will be contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment drug screen and other regulatory medical requirements such as, but not limited to, two-step tuberculosis (TB) screen. The cost for drug screening and blood draw for QuantiFERON and Titers, shall be borne by Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.
