DESCRIPTION

The Department of Human Resources, Risk Management Bureau, is seeking to fill an opening for a Medical Assistant II. Under the general direction of the Human Resources Officer, Occupational Health Services, the Medical Assistant II performs front and back office duties within the City\'s Occupational Health Clinic.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Escort patients to exam rooms, interview patients, measure vital signs including weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and document all information in patient\'s chart.
  • Keep exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies, maintain instruments, prepare sterilization as required.
  • Take telephone messages and provide feedback and answers to patient/physician/pharmacy calls.
  • Assist physician and physician assistant in exam rooms.
  • Ensure all related reports, labs and information are filed and available in patients\' medical records prior to their appointment.
  • Collect and prepare lab specimens.
  • Input medical information into patients\' Electronic Medical Record.
  • Maintain all logs and required checks (i.e., refrigeration temperatures, emergency medications, expired medications, oxygen, cold sterilization fluid change, etc.).
  • Performs other related duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS TO FILE

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification of phlebotomy within 3 months of hire.
  • A valid driver\'s license, or ability to arrange necessary and timely transportation for field travel, may be required for some assignments.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Medical Assistant Certification.
  • Two years experience working both the front office and back office in a clinical setting.
  • Breath Alcohol Technician Certificate.
  • DOT Professional Specimen Collector Certificate.
  • MRO Assistant Certificate.
SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL DEMONSTRATE:
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality and use integrity and discretion when collecting and accessing private information.
  • Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Excellent communication skills including being a good listener who asks relevant questions.
