Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently recruiting for a Mechanical Technical Professional V (Wood Group USA, Inc., Houston, TX., who will serve as Subject Matter Expert for Fired Equipment in North America. Consult Fired Equipment needs/clarifications to Wood\xe2\x80\x99s global offices.

Other responibilities will include:

  • Plans, schedules, conducts, and coordinates all phases of engineering work for Onshore/Offshore Upstream, Midstream, and Downstream projects.
  • Performs work that involves conventional engineering practice but may require innovative solution for complex features such as resolving conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials and / or difficult coordination requirements.
  • Plans, co-ordinates or prepares equipment or work specifications, material requisition, bid evaluations and award recommendations for fired equipment.
  • Coordinates engineering efforts in assigned areas between specialty and other engineering groups or disciplines, with the client, suppliers, and contractors and between other groups.
  • Leads technical role over other engineers or project subgroups for completing specific tasks.
  • Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to project management.
  • Facilitates technical discussions with third parties (clients, suppliers, regulators).
  • Reviews/analyses bids and makes technical recommendations.
  • Conducts reviews of vendor drawings, datasheets, calculations and other documentations.
  • Prepares or assists in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports, or proposals.
  • Prepares or assists in the preparation of cost estimates, quantity take-offs and equipment count for proposals, forecasts and change orders.
  • Reviews and checks work of other engineers.
Skills / Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field and 10 years of experience in job offered or a related occupation.
Position also requires:
  • 10 years of Fired Equipment or Combustion related experience, including at least 5 years in the Oil & Gas industry;
  • Experience with different types of fired / combustion equipment, their associated controls and Burner Management Systems, and associated ASME codes and API standards used in the Oil, Gas, & Chemicals Industry, including fired heaters / furnaces, flares (elevated/ground), thermal oxidizers, boilers, and WHRU / HRSGs as a minimum;
  • Experience specifying equipment, evaluating bids and reviewing vendor drawings for such equipment;
  • Experience in thermal design and the use of FRNC-5 heater simulation program or an equivalent industry standard simulation software;
  • Experience assisting in the preparation of Process Flow Diagrams (PFD), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (PID) and Material Selection Guides / Drawings (MSG / MSD), as well as participation in model reviews;
  • Industry and technology experience in LNG (APCI / ConocoPhillips / Chart), Refining / Coker, Petrochemical (Cracker, Polyethylene, Polypropylene, PVC, VCM, PTA, PET), and Gas Processing industries;
  • Experience in equipment walkdowns, reviews at vendor shops including attendance and approval of Burner Tests and Factory Acceptance Tests, and a working knowledge of transportation & logistics, field installation, and commissioning activities for fired equipment;
  • Applying knowledge of associated systems, calculations, equipment, plant layout, and materials for the development of project deliverables within the discipline;
  • Working autonomously with minimal direct supervision of day-to-day tasks to meet project goals and manage cost, schedule, and reporting of associated scope while having a thorough knowledge of inter-discipline interfaces, deliverables / milestones, and the combined project schedule; and
  • Providing training on fired equipment to other staff on an associated project as well as more formally for the Mechanical Engineering department.
