The Mechanical & Piping Superintendent is responsible for supervising and coordinating all mechanical, piping, and equipment installation activities within the Mill area. The role supports safe, timely, and high-quality construction of key process equipment including crushers, flotation cells, thickeners, pumps, piping systems, and structural supports. The Superintendent will act as the Owner's representative in the field, driving contractor performance and supporting technical resolution and turnover.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee installation of mechanical equipment and process piping, including layout, fit-up, welding, alignment, and system flushing
Interpret P&IDs, piping isometrics, and vendor documentation to guide field activities and resolve technical issues
Supervise pressure testing, bolt torqueing, and QA/QC field inspections in line with commissioning readiness
Coordinate construction activities across scopes and workfronts, ensuring alignment with structural, electrical, and instrumentation teams
Monitor contractor performance and progress against schedule, escalating risks where required
Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols, including lockout/tagout, confined space entry, and hazard identification
Participate in inspections, walkdowns, punch list resolution, and system turnover documentation
Provide field-level input on constructability, sequencing, and mitigation of execution risks
Track and close out field action items through proactive communication with contractors and internal stakeholders
Support integrated project delivery by maintaining effective exchange of field information and cross-disciplinary alignment
Execute additional duties as assigned to support safe and efficient project delivery
Skills & Competencies
Technical Skills:
In-depth understanding of mechanical systems, process piping, and equipment installation practices
Proficient in reading P&IDs, piping drawings, vendor datasheets, and mechanical specifications
Experience in QA/QC processes including pressure testing, bolt torquing, and flange management
Leadership Competencies:
Strong presence in the field with an ability to drive contractor performance and productivity
Clear communicator across multidisciplinary teams including engineers, vendors, and trades
Committed to safety-first culture with demonstrated risk management in heavy industrial environments
Experience, Qualifications & Education
10+ years of mechanical construction experience in mining or industrial settings.
Journeyperson or technical diploma in mechanical trades or engineering.
Prior superintendent or field engineer experience in Mill or process plant construction.
Experience in database or document control software would be an asset.
Previous experience acting as an Owner's representative would be an asset.
