CPS Production team in Huntsville is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer Sr. who is passionate about solving complex problems, enjoys fast paced workflow, and demonstrates positive communication in collaborative environments.
We are an energetic team working closely with internal and external customers, technical leaders, and certified principal engineers.
The Production team is responsible for developing hardware and processes that expedites vehicle manufacturing.
This includes, but is not limited to, designing hardware, releasing engineering drawings, working on the floor in Courtland, and representing technical leaders remotely as a stand-in delegates.
Qualified candidates should be able to maintain a positive and engaging attitude to learning new skills and solving difficult problems.

Responsibilities of this role include:

  • Developing mechanical design solutions using CREO
  • Creating detailed design drawings and applying GD&T
  • Taking developed designs through release and review through EPDM
  • Collaborate closely with technicians for process improvements
  • Support production meetings
  • Reviewing work instructions, and assembly processes
  • Work with in house manufacturing and outside suppliers
  • Act as a stand in for technical leaders when required
  • Be present in Courtland production facility approximately 30% of labor time
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field or equivalent experience and knowledge
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with technical and non-technical audiences
  • Extensive experience with CAD modeling, drafting, and hardware release
  • Experience with GD&T, specifically ASME Y14.5
  • Understanding of other engineering disciplines including stress, dynamics, thermal analysis, production, electronics, systems engineering, etc
  • Hands-on hardware experience
  • Ability to obtain a DOD security clearance; US citizenship is required
Desired Skills:
  • Strong Creo and CAD data management (EPDM) experience
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and documentation
  • Passion for developing hardware that improves processes and reduce cost
  • General knowledge of manufacturing processes including machining, welding, heat treatment, and assembly
  • Additive Manufacturing experience
  • Hands-on hardware experience
  • Active security clearance

Ability to Work Remotely: Part-time Remote Telework: The employee selected for this position will work part of their work schedule remotely and part of their work schedule at a designated Lockheed Martin facility. The specific weekly schedule will be discussed during the hiring process.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 9x80 every other Friday off
