Job Summary:

The Materials Engineering Department is looking for a part-time materials scientist with broad knowledge of materials, RMD products and global substance experience to join our team. This position will offer a qualified candidate the opportunity to serve in a support role to advise and assist in regulatory assessments, train others in regulatory assessments and assist with material selection of alternates materials including adhesives and other materials.

The role will support the Materials Management Team involved in assessment or regulations (ie: REACH) that impact all phases of product life cycle (including design, development, production) for a multitude of programs. Raytheon\'s REACH/Global Substances group aims to enhance the company\'s capability to comply with international REACH regulations. This role requires someone who can lead REACH activities, work with stakeholders to implement tools and processes, and provide subject matter support across the business. A key part of this role will be training and knowledge transfer to early career engineers. Training of early career engineers will require direction in attention to detail, fundamental scientific and material knowledge of our systems including REACH/Global Substance Compliance, knowledge of how to assess "where used", knowledge of specifications and databases. Collaboration with engineers, subject matter experts, Material Program Leads and suppliers is required.

You will coordinate a wide variety of simultaneous tasks within set schedule requirements at the direction of his/her Section Leader. This candidate will become part of a multi-disciplined team.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

  • Mentoring early career team members in global substances, materials management team and material (ie: adhesive) selection throughout the life cycle or the product.
  • Understanding of RMD program systems.
  • Reviewing program Bill of Materials (BOMs) against current REACH and Global Substance requirements
  • Maintain compliance scheme for International and European regulations of handling hazardous chemicals.
  • Analyze other regulatory compliance requirements related to chemicals for import and export and support business departments in their compliance procedures (TSCA, RoHS, PIC, Waste regulation, etc)
  • Enacting plans to maintain compliance with, and mitigate risk triggered by, international REACH regulations.
  • Providing subject matter support to functions and programs, managing arising issues and triggering activities to support compliance when required
  • Engage subject matter experts (SME) to support programs in their substitution to alternative chemistries.
  • Consistent engagement with team leads and management to provide project status updates.
Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Education: Bachelors Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM), specifically in Chemistry or Materials Science/Engineering
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in adhesives and regulatory assessments. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for additional 3 years of experience.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Value:
  • System level understanding of RMD products
  • Understanding of material safety datasheets and Military/Industrial Specifications
  • Understanding of Regulatory Requirements
  • Understanding of Systems Engineering, including experience in Aerospace, Defense or other military applications.
  • Experience designing and applying materials at a system level, particularly in an Aerospace environment
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, planning and time management skills
  • ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal scientific communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and complete large scale multi-disciplined scientific based projects
  • Ability to write concise technical reports summarizing analyses
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with coworkers from diverse communities and cultures
  • Demonstrated ability to work with colleagues who represent a diversity of work and conflict resolution styles

The salary range for this role is 112,000 USD - 236,000 USD; however, Raytheon Technologies considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate\'s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
