Job Description


Purpose/Summary Manage the materials function relating to the planning, sourcing, procurement, controlling, and
distribution of materials and products to meet company objectives and customer requirements.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Manages all material functions.
  • Sourcing of new materials and suppliers.
  • Production control and scheduling.
  • Manage the transportation, shipping, receiving, and warehouse functions.
  • Supports APS and cost reduction programs.
  • Responsible for management of "initial flow" or start-up process for new products.
  • Maintain systems and procedures to support the organizational structure and operational responsibilities to achieve company goals and objectives.
  • The Materials Department will notify the Plant Manager of missed shipments, track premium shipments, and coordinate communications to ascertain the reason for the missed shipment and determine the resolution.
  • Any discrepancy will be communicated to the customer immediately.
  • Provides information and strategies for inventory turns, premium freight, and continual improvement projects.
  • Oversees delivery issues relevant to labeling, EDI, and delivery performance.
  • Assesses training needs of those associates within their area of responsibility.
  • Tracking the accuracy of delivery performance and objective evaluation of on-time shipments
Qualifications and Skills
  • High School Diploma or GED required. Related four-year degree preferred\xe2\x80\x94minimum of five years of materials experience with at least two years at the materials management level.
  • Knowledge of purchasing and inventory control systems and methods.
  • Working knowledge of P.C. and mainframe systems and applications in materials areas.
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of P.C. applications.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Strong technical knowledge of Quality Systems Management.
  • Microsoft Office Knowledge

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has direct supervisory experience. It will provide the team with direction and guidance to ensure projects are prioritized, and planning processes provided are in place to ensure project deadlines are achieved. This includes selecting and hiring associates, training and evaluating associates to enhance performance, development, and work product, as well as addressing performance issues and making recommendations for personnel actions.
Physical Demands/Environment
This position requires the following physical abilities: to sit, to use hands (to finger, handle, or feel), to reach with hands and arms, to stand, to talk, to hear, and occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds. In addition, the specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
