Middle River Aerostructure Systems is a world-leading manufacturer of thrust reversers (the braking system on a jet engine), engine nacelle components and specialized aerostructures. Role Summary/Purpose

The Material & Process (M&P) Engineer- Material Obsolescence serves as the Materials & Process Engineering focal for identifying at risk material and selecting/qualifying replacement materials to the related internal and/or industry specifications. This includes working with the various internal functional groups (Engineering team, Sourcing/Procurement team, Quality Organization) and the material supplier in support of alternate material qualification.

The M&P Engineer will work in the Materials and Processing Engineering team, on site at Middle River, supporting material obsolescence management for at risk materials. The engineer will serve as a project focal for identified material obsolescence risks and alternate material qualification efforts from beginning to end. Such projects will require various types of testing and analysis across a wide range of material characteristics\xe2\x80\x93 physical, mechanical, thermal, and/or chemical. This testing and analysis may also require full scale and/or reduced scale components in product specific configurations. The engineer will also manage the alternate material qualification planning/scheduling for the identified materials, inclusive of any intern and external testing, to meet business objectives.

The engineer demonstrates an ability work with limited to some supervision, and in collaboration with others, effectively interfacing and integrating their activities within the engineering organization. An ability to establish and manage multiple projects within time constraints is required. The candidate is also responsible for timely identification and communication of project obstacles to engineering technical leads.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Serves as the M&P focal for managing at risk/obsolete materials, including identification and qualification of alternates.
  • Supports all business level report out meetings, providing status (schedule, cost, risk) of identified material obsoletion risks and qualification efforts.
  • Creates engineering qualification and certification test plans/reports.
  • Creates engineering change documentation, including obtaining customer approvals where required.
  • Collaborates with engineers and others within the business to achieve project objectives.
  • Assists in establishing technical requirements, objectives & timing.
  • Provides technical guidance to suppliers and internal team members for assigned materials.
  • Executes plans to achieve defined project and departmental goals.
  • Effective, timely, and accurate communication to internal customers, supply chain, and external customers.
  • Supports additional technology development projects as needed to support production goals.
  • Limited domestic/international travel may be required (up to 20%).
Requirements:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Materials Engineering or equivalent field from an accredited university.
  • Technical background in composites or other similar non-metallic materials-based industry.
  • Working knowledge of material analysis techniques (microscopy, mechanical testing, physical property testing, etc\xe2\x80\xa6)
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Solid organizational skills and attention to detail with some direct supervision.
