The City of Sherwood is hiring a Marketing and Communications Manager!
SUMMARY
This is a new role for the City of Sherwood and the successful candidate will play an important role in the Marketing and Communications activity for the City and its services. Under general direction the role provides direct, high-level marketing, communication, and strategic planning to city leadership and Sherwood Broadband with the purpose of informing and creating engagement with citizens, customers, and City employees. The position plans, administers, oversees, and analyzes all marketing efforts for Sherwood Broadband and the City, creating marketing and communications material that is aligned with the community\'s needs and desired outcomes. This includes analyzing the effectiveness of communication and marketing efforts on websites, social media, and advertising platforms.

  • Creates and manages the planning and implementation of marketing programs promoting the vision, goals, activities and brand of Sherwood Broadband and the City to customers, residents, neighborhoods, business community, and community leaders in alignment with City Council goals.
  • Detailed understanding of traditional and emerging marketing channels and the experience analyzing their effectiveness of desired outcomes.
  • Knowledge and experience with integrated marketing and utilizing software tools to automate marketing through various channels.
  • Assist with the development and promotion of new Sherwood Broadband products and services.
  • Assist with the Sherwood Broadband sales process, responding to customer inquiries, attending sponsored events and promoting the Utility throughout the community.
  • Performs a wide variety of confidential and complex administrative and technical duties in support of City Council\'s adopted goals and various City programs.
  • Manages and oversees projects and programs from inception to completion; provides overall planning, implementation, and evaluation of required resources.
  • Works with the City\'s leadership group, in alignment with City Council goals, to identify and develop annual communication goals including objectives, strategies, and activities.
  • Where requested attends inter-departmental meetings related to City programs to facilitate development of internal and external communications plans; provides high-level communication and community engagement coordination and strategic planning support; assist in evaluating program outcomes and prioritize workload and assignments to ensure program goals are being met.
  • Serve as a public information coordinator for various departments as needed; act as liaison with the media in efforts to promote department programs; write, edit, and distribute key external communication materials and press releases, and respond to requests for information.
  • Oversee the City\'s social media platforms and cultivate the audience of those platforms; ensure compliance with the City\'s social media standards internally and externally; develop and post social media content in coordination with other departments.
  • Work with City departments to develop communication plans specific to the department\'s needs including initial project scope, timeline, deliverables, etc.; coordinate cross-departmental communications; provide education/training to City staff on communications resources.
  • Act as managing editor for the City\'s website; develop and oversee web communications strategy and content; provide key direction on tone, look, and feel of website; manages City branding effectiveness, and provide recommendations for changes as needed.
  • Create, organize, and theme public information and marketing materials in support of City Council adopted goals & objectives and departmental objectives & programs, including print collateral, forms, and digital content.
  • Develop requests for proposal and scope of work parameters for contracts related to communications and programs; negotiates, administers, and manages the contracts.
  • Drafts memorandums, reports, and presentations and present reports and updates to City Council.
  • Act as staff liaison to City Commissions as assigned; attend all related meetings, some occurring after normal work hours; evaluate Commission proposed strategies and recommend modifications if needed.
  • Type, proofread and edit a wide variety of comprehensive, complex, and confidential reports, letters, memoranda, correspondence and statistical charts; review finished materials for completeness, accuracy, format and compliance with applicable policies and procedures.
  • Answer questions and provide information to City staff and the public regarding City procedures and policies; refer inquiries as appropriate.
  • Contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Maintain regular, predictable attendance and punctuality.
  • Perform other directly related duties consistent with the role and function of the classification.
Auxiliary Job Duties:
Provide assistance to other staff as workload and staffing levels dictate. Maintain proficiency by attending training and meetings, reading materials, and meeting with others in areas of responsibility. Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner. Support and respect diversity in the workplace. May perform other duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience Guidelines
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education:
Equivalent to Bachelor\'s Degree with major coursework in communication, public administration, marketing, or a related field.
Experience:
Three years of increasingly responsible experience in communications and marketing is required, preferably within the Public Sector. Two years of program coordination is preferred. One year min of experience working with the media, social media, creating public information documents, brochures, flyers, press releases, etc. is preferred.
