General Summary: General Summary
In this role the Market Development Manager is responsible for leading a function that captures both tactical and strategic intelligence on current and emerging competitors and our targeted specialized industries and preferred markets to support business acquisition and market development. This individual is expected to become a thought leader within the organization on our competitors and our specialized industries and preferred markets and a go-to resource for information on how to position to win business. This individual will also be responsible for crafting and driving proactive strategies, programs, and targeted campaigns that help our field capitalize on our identified points of differentiation in our targeted specialized industries and preferred markets and versus competitors. This individual will also need outstanding critical thinking and proven analytical ability to make recommendations on future capabilities needed to continue to be a strong competitor in our marketplace. This individual also must have outstanding relationship management and collaboration skills and be able to work effectively with our distribution organization. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Intelligence Capture
  • Establish processes and tactics to proactively patrol and acquire information on the key capabilities and sales strategies of our top competitors and the needs of our customers in our specialized industries and preferred markets
  • Build and manage field collector network to amass information on competitors and our target markets.
  • Become an expert on competitive and market intelligence research sources and subscription databases
Sales Tools & Support
  • Build and maintain a catalog of stock material highlighting our points of differentiation versus competitors and how to win in our specialized industries and preferred markets focusing on both product and services
  • Develop proactive programs and campaigns to help the field leverage identified strengths in market.
  • Establish on-demand sales support function to provide deal-specific support on how to position to win.
  • Establish tracking metrics to measure effectiveness of materials and sales support
  • Update and maintain the intelligence repository on Propr intranet site.
Communication
  • Develop outreach and communication processes to proactively promote competitive and preferred market intelligence informational tools across the organization
  • Establish a real-time alerting function on key market activity analyzing the event and distilling implications and tactical responses
  • Establish and lead regularly scheduled webinars for the field and home office on competitive market trends and how to capitalize from a sales perspective
  • Create and maintain intelligence distribution lists
Job Specifications
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree and 5+ years of experience working in voluntary benefits, employee benefits, insurance, insurance sales, consulting, or related field
  • Experience in any of the following preferred: marketing and communications, voluntary products and underwriting, sales and distribution, enrollment implementation & execution.
  • Strategic thinker with a solid understanding of the business and ability to infer relevance of information for business development purposes.
  • Ability to \xe2\x80\x9cconnect the dots\xe2\x80\x9d and identify implications and recommended tactical actions.
  • Intuitive, but drives to validate concepts with research
  • Strong facilitation/presentation and communication skills
  • Strong project management practices with the ability to handle multiple complex projects at an appropriate level of detail
  • Critical thinking and influencing skills
  • Strong sense of urgency and outstanding time management skills
  • Excellent at partnering/collaborating and building new relationships
  • Organized approach to documentation and reporting

Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience. $72,100.00-$126,300.00 Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not.
