Job Summary:

This position will be responsible for leading analytical, financial, and operational support for field operations within SOPs (Southern Operations) supporting Atlanta Gas Light and Chattanooga Gas. The purpose of this position is to manage the day-to-day activities and the performance of extensive level financial analysis performed by financial analysts. This position will lead the Margin, Expense and Capital Budgets to include Month-end Close processes supporting Southern Operations with its 900+ employees and its $100M+ expense budget. The position requires coaching a high-performing team through mentoring and training.

This role typical reports into Director, Utility Planning and Analysis, has 1- 2 direct reports and is based at Southern Company Gas Headquarters in a (hybrid) work environment. Traveler (10%-25% travel): The incumbent may be required to travel to field operations service centers within Georgia and Tennessee.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Coaches, trains, and mentor staff on analysis and reporting to promote accurate and appropriate interpretation of financial and operational data
  • Responsible for coordination and completion of comprehensive budgeting and closing cycles
  • Develops financial reports for forecasting, trending and results analysis including the identification of risks and opportunities
  • Analyzes and interprets financial data to make economic and business decisions. Conducts ad hoc financial analysis to perform valuations, track financial trends, forecast earnings, and drive key performance metrics
  • Provides detailed analysis and support to internal departments on budget issues; answers questions, provides support, guidance, and service
  • Partners with cross functional teams within the organization that have an impact on Southern Operations, to include Resources Management, Supply Chain, Regulatory, Accounting and others
  • Manage the monthly reporting of financial and operational results against Budget/Targets, communicate the results accurately and timely and ensure stakeholders understand the variances
  • Develop value added analysis and reporting (monthly variance reporting, trending, projections, presentations, peer review and ad-hoc analysis) to support business decision makers
  • Will be primary lead for training and supporting business user needs for FP&A system tools and templates
  • Communicates with Director on regular basis as it relates to matters of financial decisions and performance, financial and budget analysis, and reporting

Education, Certifications/Licenses:

Required:
  • BA/BS in Finance, Economics, Accounting or Business or other related degrees
Preferred:
  • Advanced degree and/or CPA, CMA or CFA certification
Related Work Experience:

Required:
  • 10+ years experience performing financial analysis, planning, and management reporting
  • Experience working with senior executives on an individual and team basis
  • Track record of working with others or experience managing a team
Preferred:
  • Utility, natural gas or other energy industry experience
Applicant may possess a combination of equivalent education and work experience.

Specific Skills & Knowledge:

Required:
  • Working knowledge of Oracle and/or similar systems
  • MS Excel \xe2\x80\x93 intermediate to advanced proficiency
  • MS PowerPoint \xe2\x80\x93 intermediate proficiency
  • Power BI or Tableau - intermediate proficiency
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
  • \xc2\xb7 This position requires occasional travel (10-25% travel) to field operations service centers within Georgia and Tennessee. Trips may require air travel and/or overnight.
  • \xc2\xb7 The incumbent works in a hybrid work environment, in the office on-site 2-3 days per week, and subject to change per business needs.
