Upward Health is seeking a Director of Financial Planning and Analysis to shape and drive continued improvement around the FP&A team and financial drivers of our fast-growing organization. This role will lead the development of financial reporting, modeling, planning, and analysis of all aspects of the business, including creating financial models for health plan contracting with both upside and downside risk. The Director will report to the CEO, and work closely with others within the Finance, Clinical Operations, Business Services, and Business Development areas, as well as cross functionally across the organization. The ideal candidate will have a passion for healthcare, exceptional analytical skills, excellent communication skills, and experience working in a fast-paced and dynamic team environment.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Lead financial modeling for risk-based contracts, analyzing upside and downside scenarios to ensure alignment with financial goals and targets.
  • Support the contracting process by producing staffing projections based on value-based care contracts, ensuring appropriate staffing levels to meet patient needs and contractual obligations.
  • Work closely with the sales team to support the business development process, providing financial analysis and modeling to inform strategic decisions and proposals.
  • Manage both short and long-term forecasts as well as the annual budget, utilizing financial models and data analytics to inform decision-making.
  • Lead the team to produce timely, efficient, and accurate month-end close and internal management and financial reporting, ensuring compliance with all relevant financial regulations.
  • Perform special projects as assigned by the CFO, leveraging financial modeling and analysis to inform strategic decisions.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting, including metrics around KPIs and commentary for both the Senior Leadership Team, Board of Directors, and other interested parties.
  • Refine reporting from automated financial reporting systems, continually improving the accuracy and efficiency of financial reporting processes.
  • Meet regularly with operating units and departmental management to review operating expenses vs. plan/forecast, identifying areas for improvement and providing financial analysis and recommendations.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the FP&A team, promoting a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and accountability.
Requirements:

Position Requirements:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in finance or accounting required.
  • 7+ years of experience in financial planning and analysis or other finance-related fields.
  • Healthcare industry experience preferred.
  • Experience in leading financial modeling for risk-based contracts and value-based care contracts.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills.
  • Exceptional analytical skills, including data visualization and presentation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Critical thinker, self-starter, and ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives at the same time.
  • Comfort and experience working in a fast-paced and dynamic team environment.
