Job Description


Purpose

As a Purchasing Manager for Avangrid a utility and renewable energy company, you will play a vital role in overseeing and managing procurement processes up to $750,000 for all our areas including the networks, corporate, gas and on-shore/offshore renewable energy businesses. You will be responsible for managing a team fully dedicated to sourcing, negotiating, purchasing goods, services, and equipment necessary for our operations.
Your expertise in strategic planning, supplier management, cost control, and contract negotiation will ensure the efficient and cost-effective procurement of materials, while maintaining compliance with company policies and industry regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with the company\'s objectives and budgetary requirements.
  • Assist team members with the end-to-end procurement process, including identifying needs, sourcing suppliers, evaluating proposals, negotiating contracts, and executing purchase orders, sporadically the manager will have to lead some processes due to complexity and other factors.
  • Conduct market research and analysis to identify potential suppliers, evaluate their capabilities, and assess market trends, ensuring the selection of reliable and competitive vendors.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, fostering effective communication, and resolving any issues or disputes that may arise.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including project managers, engineers, and finance teams amongst many others in order to effectively manage procurement needs, specifications, and timelines.
  • Monitor and analyze inventory levels to optimize stock availability, minimize costs, and prevent shortages or excesses.
  • Develop and implement key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure and track supplier performance, delivery times, quality, and overall procurement efficiency such as turn around times, transparency, savings and others.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, new products, and technological advancements related to the utility and renewable energy industry, incorporating innovative solutions into the procurement process.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, legal requirements, and ethical standards in all procurement activities.
  • Manage and lead a team of purchasing professionals, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to drive procurement initiatives and improve bottom line performance. This includes participation in global teams, RFPs, and initiatives with other Avangrid/Iberdrola businesses as necessary. Solicit assistance from subject matter experts (while also being a subject matter expert), and others within the business, as required.
  • Interact regularly with senior level staff and executives across the organization.
  • Continually search for and offer improvement ideas around process, policy, and strategy. Looking for efficiencies and synergies to existing contracts, renewals and recent awards.
Skills and Requirements

Education & Experience Required:
  • Bachelor\'s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business, Economics, or relevant field with a minimum of 5 years of applicable experience; or
  • Seven (7) years of supplier management experience including qualifying suppliers, negotiating pricing and contracts, managing supplier quality, etc.
  • Prior experience with the utility, or renewable energy industry is preferred.
  • Knowledge of supply chain methodologies, models, and procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, negotiation, and influencing skills, including the ability to communicate concepts, data and recommendations to management.
  • Experience performing economic evaluation for the procurement of equipment and services.
  • C.P.M./C.P.S.M. or working towards is preferred.
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
  • Strong knowledge of procurement principles, best practices, and industry standards.
  • Demonstrated expertise in strategic sourcing, supplier management, and contract negotiation.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions in complex situations with sensitive timelines.
  • Proficiency in procurement software (Ariba), enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, Microsoft Office Suite amongst many others.
  • Outstanding communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with relevant legal and regulatory requirements in the utility industry, such as environmental and safety standards, Third party, indemnification etc\xe2\x80\xa6
  • Strategic orientation with excellent analytical, project management, negotiation, presentation, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Self-starter with demonstrated performance leading initiatives and building consensus at all levels of a matrixed global organization.
  • Strong prioritization and multi-tasking skills with the ability to operate in a complex, rapidly changing business environment with typically tight deadlines and demanding targets.
  • Ability to foster and participate in a productive team environment by establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with team menbers, co-workers, managers, executives, customers, contractors, and vendors.
  • Ability to analyze project risks and proactively identify solutions with a flexible, creative, and solution-focused outlook on problem solving.
