Job Overview

Respond to trouble calls after hours. Performs work on A/C and heating repairs, ventilating and pumping equipment; repair and troubleshoot all plumbing repairs (e.g., fire alarms, lock outs electrical outages, water main breaks, building floods.) Thorough knowledge of trade or working knowledge of a variety of trades to respond to calls.

Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation

This position reports directly to the Supervisor of the Maintenance Shop working within the Facility Operations Division along with employees of other trades, and trades helpers.

Depending on assigned area of work, this position reports directly to a Zone Manager along with employees of other trades, and trades helpers.

The work performed by incumbent is a direct service to the department ensuring a comfortable, safe and clean environment, in which the University community can live, learn and work.

This position has been designated as On-Campus. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University. Requirements and Qualifications

Completion of apprenticeship or equivalent training in the stationary engineer trade. Possession of an appropriate stationary engineer\xe2\x80\x99s license for the facility assigned. DC 1st Class Engineer\xe2\x80\x99s License required.

Academic Level: High School

Degree Program (list): High school diploma or GED required. Master mechanic, journeyman plumber, or journeyman electrician designation preferred.

Practical Experience (years needed and type required):

Requires 4-5 years of experience performing general building maintenance work utilizing intermediate electrical, plumbing and HVAC /refrigeration skill.

Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certification:

Requires completion of a training program in general building maintenance that includes intermediate electrical, hvac /refrigeration, and plumbing. Must have Universal EPA \xe2\x80\x93CFC certification.

Requires basic computer literacy with familiarity of basic MS Windows operating system programs.

Must have a valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license issued from the District of Columbia, Maryland or Virginia. This position may require the incumbent to operate University commercial vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating of 10K+ (e.g., tow trucks, box trucks, trash trucks, buses, lifts, etc.). As such, the incumbent must possess a medical card and/or certificate issued by the Department of Transportation (DOT), which is issued by a licensed \xe2\x80\x9cmedical examiner,\xe2\x80\x9d after completion of a DOT physical examination as defined in GU Policy1017 and DOT Regulations 391.11 (4) \xe2\x80\x93 Medical Card/Certificate and 390.5 (1) \xe2\x80\x93 Commercial Motor Vehicles (10K+) Definitions ( )..
