The BIIA is a medium-sized state agency under the administration of three full-time Board Members. It is independent from the Department of Labor and Industries (L&I). The BIIA hears appeals from decisions made by L&I in several areas. The three principal types of appeals are:

  • Industrial insurance (workers' compensation).
  • Safety citations under the Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act (WISHA).
  • Employer Premiums (Tax Assessment and Classification).

Duties
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Independently processing incoming electronic documents; opening and reviewing incoming documents from the electronic portal by legal significance and routing to the appropriate docket file and recipient.
Independently processing incoming and outgoing agency faxes.
Receiving all mail. Date-stamping documents and scanning mail so that it can be processed through the portal if necessary.
Reviewing and organizing boxes of records related to a public records request. Examining and identifying documents responsive to specific criteria and accuracy.
Unbinding, collating, and preparing documents for scanning or digital reproduction. Scanning and converting paper records into digital files. Reassembling and rebinding documents in their original order and condition after scanning. Reporting issues such as missing or damaged documents.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Option 1: High School graduation or GED and two (2) years of clerical or administrative experience.
Option 2: High School graduation or GED and one (1) year of legal office experience.
Option 3: An AA degree and one (1) year of clerical or administrative experience.
Option 4: A bachelor's degree in any field.

Ability to operate standard office equipment, including scanners, copiers, and computers.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Exceptional keyboarding skills.
Ability to perform research.
Ability to assist customers regarding inquiries, complaints or problems.
Ability to multitask, prioritize workload, and effectively manage time.
Ability to lift boxes and push a cart that may become heavy and cumbersome.

NOTES
  • Duration: This is a non-permanent position of up to 12 months.
  • Duty Station: The official duty station is the Olympia office, with a possibility of remote work on a limited basis.
  • Work Schedule: 8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday.
  • This position is included in the bargaining unit represented by the Washington Federation of State Employees.
