REMADE Institute is a 160-member public-private partnership established by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) with an initial investment of $140 million. A Manufacturing USA\xc2\xae institute, REMADE leads a consortium of industry innovators, academic researchers, and national labs to accelerate the U.S s transition to a Circular Economy.

Efforts are ongoing worldwide to move from today s linear economy, where we take-make-dispose, to a Circular Economy, where we make-use-reuse-remanufacture-recycle. Conserving resources, reducing energy consumption, and decreasing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are major components of that transformation. Through its research and development portfolio, REMADE is developing innovate technologies that are capable of:

  • Saving 1 Quad of energy, which equates to the electrical use by all U.S. households per year
  • Reducing 50 million metric tons per year in GHG emissions
  • Increasing the supply and use of recycled materials by more than 40 million metric tons per year
  • Creating clean-economy jobs and increasing U.S. manufacturing s competitiveness
Remade is seeking a hands-on Legal Counsel who can handle many legal matters directly, having the seasoned judgment and presence to work with the CEO and senior officers on a wide variety of issues. The successful candidate will have a compelling passion for novel and innovative technologies, energy efficiency and their application to American manufacturing.

Primary Responsibilities

Reporting to the REMADE CEO, the Legal Counsel s responsibilities include the following:
  • Develop and oversee all contracts, including subaward agreements, membership agreements, technology agreements, licenses, alliance agreements, and vendor contracts.
  • Develop and oversee plans for IP management and reporting.
  • Advise on corporate governance and compliance matters.
  • Work with the Contract Administrator to drive continuous improvement to legal templates, processes, and support models, including contract administration procedures and processes.
  • Engage and supervise outside counsel as necessary.
  • Operate at the highest levels of integrity, ethical behavior, judgment, and discretion.
Required Experience
  • 6+ years of legal experience, including meaningful in-house experience, with substantive legal knowledge in intellectual property law (patents, copyrights, trade secrets, trademarks) and experience in developing and negotiating technology transactions.
  • Experience contracting with federal agencies, federal funding, and regulatory compliance strongly preferred.
  • Experience with board and corporate governance, with knowledge of Delaware nonprofit corporations law and related laws (e.g., tax aspects) a plus.
  • JD from a U.S. accredited law school and New York (or another U.S.) state bar admission in good standing.
Location
  • This job is located at the company s headquarters in Rochester, New York. This is not a remote or hybrid position.
