JOB SUMMARY:

The Learning Strategist at the Harvey S. Peeler, Jr. College of Veterinary Medicine (PCVM) provides academic support and coaching for students by offering success strategies to excel in their classes and by facilitating campus-wide workshops. The Learning Strategist provides one-on-one and small group coaching for students by appointment and/or when referred through Navigate or early alerts from faculty or staff and supports students as they prepare for licensing exams. Performs other duties as assigned.


JOB DUTIES:

50% - Essential - Student Academic Coaching: Meet with PCVM students individually or in small groups, providing individualized guidance that helps them develop the academic and professional strategies they need to be successful, especially studying/exam preparation, time management, professional skills, accountability/motivation, goal setting, and resilience to help them navigate challenges. Teach and coach students to develop problem-solving and self-advocacy skills.



25% - Essential - Communication and Outreach: Connect students with the resources they need to successfully complete the academic program and pass their licensing exam. Intervene with students to mitigate academic and professional concerns reported on early alert reports from faculty and staff and by monitoring academic performance and behaviors through Navigate (or other similar academic software). Participate in meetings with colleagues around professional development and strategy building around veterinary student issues.



25% - Essential - Program Support: Create and upload documentation for student appointments and other interventions and then use this information to build further student support. Develop and support PCVM peer tutoring program. Offer support in building the "professional development" curriculum, and delivering content through lectures and workshops as needed. Assess the nature of academic and learning skills issues through conversations with students, faculty, and staff to grow and improve the support and services offered and assist with the triage of student needs. Collaborate with main campus' Academic Support Center. Conduct regular scans of the literature related to academic skills development in adult learners, attend conferences on student development, and perform occasional site visits to other postsecondary institutions.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education - A Bachelor's Degree and experience in student services programs.


PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:


---------------------------




Education - Master's Degree in Higher Education, Education, Social Work, Disability Studies or a related area.



Work Experience - 5+ years of experience in advising, education, or academic coaching - particularly with adult learners or in professional schools/programs

COMPENSATION INFORMATION

Expected Salary Range ($ 39,764.00 - $ 60,000.00)



Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.

Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected work on-site during emergency situations.
