Job Title: Lead Veterinary Technician

Position Summary

The Lead Veterinary Technician provides clinical leadership and operational support to the veterinary technician and assistant teams while delivering exceptional patient care. This role balances advanced technical skills with team leadership, training, and collaboration to ensure consistent medical standards, efficient workflow, and a positive hospital culture.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership & Patient Care

Perform advanced veterinary technician duties including anesthesia monitoring, diagnostic imaging, laboratory procedures, surgical assistance, patient nursing care, and client education Ensure adherence to established medical protocols, safety standards, and infection prevention practices Serve as a clinical resource and mentor for technicians and assistants Support veterinarians during examinations, procedures, and surgeries to maintain efficient patient flow
Team Leadership & Training

Lead, mentor, and support veterinary technicians and assistants to promote skill development and accountability Assist with onboarding and training of new clinical staff Foster a collaborative, respectful, and solution-oriented team environment Provide constructive feedback and support performance improvement initiatives
Operations & Workflow

Assist in scheduling and assignment of technical staff to ensure appropriate coverage Monitor inventory levels of medical supplies and equipment; communicate needs to leadership Support implementation of hospital policies, standard operating procedures, and quality assurance initiatives Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, patient care, and team performance
Communication & Client Experience

Communicate effectively with veterinarians, team members, and clients Educate clients on patient care, treatment plans, and follow-up instructions Promote professionalism and consistency in client interactions
Qualifications

Licensed/Certified Veterinary Technician (LVT, CVT, or RVT) in good standing, per state requirements Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical veterinary technician experience Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred Strong technical proficiency in anesthesia, surgical assistance, diagnostics, and patient care Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills Comfortable using practice management software and medical record systems

Physical Requirements
