Lead Budtender (Management Track) - New Cannabis Retail Company in Boulder, CO Starting Pay: $22/hr (first 1-3 months) Transition to Salary: $70,000 annually once the store scales Location: Boulder, Colorado Employment Type: Full-time Experience Level: Experienced (Management experience preferred) About Us: We are a brand-new Boulder-based cannabis company, rooted in a passion for the plant and an uncompromising commitment to product quality. As we prepare to open our first location in Boulder, we're looking for a responsible, team-oriented Lead Budtender who wants to help build a culture and brand from the ground up--and grow with us into a long-term leadership role. This is a rare opportunity to join early, contribute to the foundation of the business, and transition into full management within the first six months. Position Overview: The Lead Budtender acts as a senior-level sales professional, cultural leader, and support to ownership during the early phase of store launch. This role is intentionally structured to transition into a full management position within approximately six (6) months, based on performance and store growth. Candidates with prior dispensary management experience will be strongly preferred. Key Responsibilities: Customer Experience & Sales: o Provide welcoming, knowledgeable, and compliant customer service to Boulder locals and visitors. o Guide customers with expertise in products, strains, terpenes, dosing, and effects. o Maintain a strong understanding of Colorado cannabis laws and Boulder-specific municipal requirements. Operational Leadership: o Serve as the shift lead and ensure smooth daily operations. o Support and mentor budtenders; model consistency, teamwork, and professionalism. o Perform and oversee opening/closing procedures, including cash handling. o Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant retail environment. Inventory & Compliance: o Assist with product intake, labeling, packaging, and compliance checks. o Support METRC tracking and inventory accuracy. o Identify discrepancies and communicate issues promptly. POS & Technology: o Operate Cova POS efficiently (experience preferred). o Assist in training team members on POS and store tech systems. Transition Into Management (~6 Months) Once trained and the store gains momentum, responsibilities may expand to include: o Staff scheduling and performance evaluations o Training new hires and maintaining a strong team culture o Vendor communication, ordering, and restocking o Monitoring key performance metrics and sales targets o Helping refine store systems, processes, and Boulder-specific retail strategy Qualifications: Required o 1-2 years budtending experience in a licensed dispensary. o Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others. o Reliable, responsible, and trustworthy work ethic. o Strong product and compliance knowledge. o Valid MED badge. o Professional references are required (minimum of two). Preferred o Previous dispensary management or leadership experience (shift lead, keyholder, ASM, GM). o Experience using Cova POS. o Knowledge of the Boulder cannabis market, customer base, consumer trends, and competitive environment. o Experience in Boulder cannabis retail is a major plus. Compensation & Career Path: Starting Wage: $22/hr for first 1-3 months while the Boulder location ramps up. Transition to Salary: Role transitions to a ~$70,000 annual salary once performance milestones are reached and the store hits operational benchmarks.
