The HSSI Marine Corps Police Academy-Ft. Leonard Wood (MCPA-FLW) Instructor is responsible for providing the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Program (MCLEP) with approved law enforcement training. The incumbent presents course material and instruction in the full spectrum of law enforcement training, ranging from initial basic law enforcement training for civilian police officers to conducting PMO/MCPD in-service training and the re-qualification/certification program associated with Marine Corps law enforcement. The incumbent must possess a thorough knowledge of the subject matter as well as effective instructional delivery techniques and knowledge of instructional methods and learning styles of adult students. The work is rigorous at times as much of the training is outdoors and \xe2\x80\x9chands on\xe2\x80\x9d with respect to defensive tactics and firearms training, therefore, the incumbent must be in excellent physical health in order to conduct the rigorous hands-on instruction portion of the curriculum.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Must have an in-depth knowledge of military and civilian law enforcement procedures, the military and civilian criminal justice system, and other related disciplines.
  • Must possess the skill and ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing to a wide variety of audiences.
  • Must possess documented and demonstrated experience as an instructor or trainer in a military, law enforcement or security related field.
  • Must have an accomplished classroom and podium presence with the keen ability to establish an environment conducive to learning.
  • Must be proficient in the use of computers and software, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, databases and e-mail.
  • Must have the skill and ability to qualify and maintain proficiency with a variety of weapons utilized in PMO/MCPD operations.
  • Must have the ability to become certified in, perform and instruct a variety of defensive tactics systems utilized in PMO/MCPD operations.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain certification in CPR/First Aid.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must have a minimum of five (6) years of DoD/DoJ Law Enforcement Experience.
  • Must have a minimum of three (3) ears as an Instructor, Trainer, or Training Support
  • Must have knowledge and experience in recent/modern law enforcement procedures and techniques.
  • Must have completed or complete an instructor development course.
  • Required Skills/Expertise: Must be certified in the following skills wiithin 60 days of on-boarding as an instructor: Firearms training-NRA Law Enforcement Handgun and Shotgun certified instructor or a Service approved alternative (at the discretion of the Executive Director); NRA Patrol Rifle Instructor Course or a Service approved alternative; Defensive Tactics (as approved by the Executive Director); Oleoresin Capsicum Spray-INIWIC or Service approved alternative; National Safety Council (NSC) CPR/Advanced First Aid/AED/BBP Instructor certified; TASER - INIWIC or Manufacturer certified (a approved by Executive Director); Standard Field Sobriety Testing - certified to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration standards and/or RSO certification per Fort Leonard Wood Policy and Procedures.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must successfully pass initial drug screening and periodic follow-up testing.
  • Must successfully complete a background check.
  • Must pass a physical examination.
  • Must successfully pass a psychological evaluation.
  • Must possess a valid in state driver\xe2\x80\x99s license.
  • Must possess an Associates Degree in any field
  • Must possess a bachelor\'s degree in Criminal Justice desired
  • Must have 20/20 correctable vision in each eye.
