Portland Public Schools is seeking a Language Tutoring Coordinator to design, coordinate and lead a new summer tutoring program for multilingual elementary school students that will be provided by community partner sites for newcomer students this summer.
This is a stipended position that begins May 1, 2023 and runs through August 26, 2023. This position receives a stipend of $5120 for planning in May and early June, and then approximately 2 hours a day of coordinating, supporting teachers, and tutoring students during the summer sessions, June 27 - Aug 26. Weekly hours are flexible and will vary based on the program needs.
Position responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Work with district leadership, the multilingual department and community partners to identify students who will receive tutoring services in language development.
Develop or procure appropriate curriculum for language tutoring.
Develop tutoring objectives, agendas, and materials for teachers.
Provide training and ongoing support for teachers within the community partner sites around tutoring best practices, engagement, and data analysis.
Hold frequent meetings with teachers to troubleshoot issues and ensure high quality programming for students.
Develop assessment systems for students to track progress from June to August using WIDA rubrics.
Use assessment data to develop a summary report to schools and the district on student progress and to assess whether the new program is successful.
Education/Experience:
Bachelor\'s Degree required
ESOL certification (660) or eligibility required
Curriculum development and/or teaching multilingual learner experience preferred
Combinations of applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the job duties, will be considered.
Certification and License Requirements:
Criminal History Background Check (CHRC) required ($70)
