General Summary

This position works under general supervision and is primarily responsible for providing technical support (such as phage testing) for the activities of the sales and marketing team and/or customers with close and direct supervision of all laboratory support functions for the Food Culture & Enzyme division.

Principal Duties And Responsibilities (* = Essential Functions)

Participates in laboratory testing as directed by senior lab staff and the Phage Lab Manager.

Participates and maintains ampoule inventory for the culture host collection used for testing.

Maintains and organizes data, including entry of data into Phage registry, documentation of lab reports, lab requisitions and files in the applicable databases. Follows-up with appropriate personnel when necessary.

Performs testing per Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for the Phage Laboratory and enters results into applicable database for the generation of reports.

Performs general lab housekeeping.

Maintains good laboratory practices and laboratory rooms according to standard operating procedures.

Keeps lab supplies and materials well stocked and places orders when necessary.

Maintains laboratory equipment through routine maintenance and documentation.

Participates regularly in staff and other group meetings.

Perform all other duties as assigned. Reports to work on time and works overtime as required.

Keeps a log of all samples that are received into the Phage Laboratory.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to read, write and speak English is a requirement of this position.

Employee will be required to perform tests using a variety of laboratory equipment.

A highly professional manner relating to conduct, appearance and attitude must be maintained.

Ability to participate in projects.

Must have the ability to prioritize tasks and work flows.

Ability to participate in a team-driven environment, but able to work independently.

Possess a working knowledge in Microsoft Office programs. SAP experience is a plus.

These characteristics are normally acquired through a Bachelors degree in a related field, such as Microbiolgy or Food Science, and prefer a minimum of one year experience.

Working Conditions

Working environment is generally favorable and consists of a laboratory environment. Lighting, temperature and noise levels are adequate. Personal Protective Equipment is required where stated. This includes a lab coat, hair/beard net, safety glasses, and gloves.

Physical demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, talk and hear. The employee is regularly required to lift and/or move materials or equipment up to 50 lbs. Frequent use of hands to finger, handle or touch objects, tools or controls. Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and chemicals.
