Primary Responsibilities

• Assist the R&D Team with essential duties needed to complete custom color matches.
• Weigh and mix colored pigment recipes for processing on lab extrusion and melt mixing equipment
• Operate plastics process equipment such as single and twin screw extruders, 2 roll mills, injection molders, etc
• Observe all safety procedures and practices while performing lab functions. Stay up-to-date with required safety training.
• Review product formulations with the Color Matcher, Color Match Coordinator, and/or the R&D Manager. Prepare and label the required samples needed for color match approval.
• Assist R&D Team with paperwork and shipping documents related to new color matches
• Compare performance of new raw materials against current stock materials, including polymer resins, pigments, dyes, additives, and others.
• As a part of the R&D Team, do your part to maintain good organizational and housekeeping practices in the laboratory and contribute to a safe work environment
• Develop an understanding of color theory. Work to improve color sense to grow in the role as a member of the R&D Team.

Requirements Knowledge, Skills and Experience You should have:

• Must be able to pass color vision test
• High school diploma or GED, ideally with 2-4 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in pigments and plastics
• Ability to communicate, read and write in English
• Ability to follow a prescribed formula or recipe
• Ability to work with computers
• Strong work ethic
• History of good attendance
• Effective communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects
• Experience in extrusion in a plastics processing environment a plus.

Physical Demands

• Must be able to stand for up to 2 hours at a time
• Must be able to climb at least two flights of stairs without getting dizzy or winded
• Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. (regularly) and occasionally up to 55 lbs.
• Must be comfortable wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), occasionally including a respirator.
