Overview:
Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Information Technology, the Jr. Network Technician's primary responsibility is maintaining and troubleshooting computer networks, both onsite and remote. This position will support Network Technical Management as well as Research Lab environments, and some special projects.
Responsibilities:
Network Technical Management (60%):
Manage, configure, and maintain network devices including routers, switches, and firewalls as directed
Monitor network performance using tools such as 7Signal/SapphireEye and AeroHive/Extreme Wi-Fi to optimize connectivity across campus
Implement security measures using FortiNAC and other tools to safeguard the network against threats
Implement changes for requested network connectivity to ensure access and/or business continuity
Troubleshoot network issues, providing timely solutions to minimize downtime and maintain high service levels
Act as a backup for other IT departments across the Touro system, providing cross-functional support in areas such as documentation, network management, and user support
Assist in creating and maintaining comprehensive documentation and project plans to ensure consistency and knowledge sharing across the team
Desktop Support (40%)Knowledge of using ServiceNow or similar ticketing system for incident management response
Respond to user inquiries and resolve technical issues in a timely manner
Technology troubleshooting in complex environments
Install, configure, and troubleshoot hardware and software
Provide support & training for printers, and mobile devices (Mac & Windows)
Maintain accurate documentation of support activities and solutions provided
Work with external vendors to support hardware and software
Supported include, but are not limited to: Metabolic Research Center, Pharmacy Practicum & Research Labs, Mass Spectrometry & NMR Research Labs
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree or five (5) years relevant work experience
Preferred certifications: CompTiaa: Network + and Security+; CISCO: CCST, CCNA, CCNP
Experience working within academic or related service environments
Experience working as part of a local and enterprise service team
Hands-on experience with configuration, maintenance, and monitoring switches, routers, network appliances, firewalls, network interfaces, and print sharing devices
Hands-on experience with Dynamic Host Configuration (DHCP), Directory Name Services (DNS)
Hands-on experience with VLAN Configuration, routing tables
Hands-on experience with network performance monitoring and coordination of preventive maintenance planning
Hands-on experience with wireless networks and solving related network issues
Experience in making technology recommendations to address problems or needs
