This position may be filled by probational appointment or promotion of a classified Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry employee serving with permanent status. Applicants who are not permanent employees of Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry will be required to serve a 24 month probationary period.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A baccalaureate degree plus four years of experience in information technology.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

1. An associate\'s degree in information technology will substitute for the baccalaureate degree.

2. Two years of experience or training in information technology will substitute for the baccalaureate degree. Candidates without a baccalaureate degree may combine experience or training in information technology and college credit to substitute for the required baccalaureate degree as follows:

30 to 59 semester hours credit will substitute for six months of experience or training in information technology towards the baccalaureate degree.

60 to 89 semester hours credit will substitute for one year of experience or training in information technology towards the baccalaureate degree.

90 or more semester hours credit will substitute for one year and six months of experience or training in information technology towards the

baccalaureate degree.

A maximum of 90 semester hours may be combined with experience or training in information technology to substitute for the baccalaureate

degree.

3. Six years of full-time work experience in any field may be substituted for the required baccalaureate degree. Candidates without a baccalaureate degree may combine work experience in any field and college credit to substitute for the baccalaureate degree as follows:

30 to 59 semester hours credit will substitute for one year of experience towards the baccalaureate degree.

60 to 89 semester hours credit will substitute for two years of experience towards the baccalaureate degree.

90 to 119 semester hours credit will substitute for three years of experience towards the baccalaureate degree.

120 or more semester hours credit will substitute for four years of experience towards the baccalaureate degree.

A maximum of 120 semester hours may be combined with experience to substitute for the baccalaureate degree.

4. A baccalaureate degree with twenty-four semester hours in computer science, management information systems (MIS), quantitative business analysis--computer science, electrical engineering, information systems and decision sciences, computer engineering, mathematics, telecommunications, or computer information systems will substitute for up to one year of required experience.

5. A master\'s degree will substitute for up to one year of the required experience.

NOTE:

Multiple specialized degrees and/or master\'s degrees will substitute for a maximum of one year of required experience.

NOTE:

A certification in an approved area may be substituted for the education and/or experience requirements at the time of hire or promotion, provided the appointment is made from a Certificate of Eligibles.

Job Concepts

FUNCTION OF WORK:

To serve as a technical lead for technical support activities that are outside of the scope of the Office of Technology Services.

LEVEL OF WORK:

Experienced.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

General from an IT Supervisor or IT Manager. Other reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

May provide functional supervision over lower-level personnel.

LOCATION OF WORK:

State agencies with information technology functions that are outside of the scope of the Office of Technology Services.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:

Differs from IT Technical Support Analyst 3 by the presence of serving as a technical lead for technical support activities that are outside of the scope of the Office of Technology Services.

Differs from IT Technical Specialist 2 by the absence of serving as a technical lead for complex information technology support activities that are outside of the scope of the Office of Technology Services.

Examples of Work

This position involves performing highly responsible and advanced information technology duties. This position serves as the primary technician responsible for supporting endpoint security. This includes complex activities related to the deployment of operating systems, software updates, and endpoint monitoring and management within the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry.

45% Instrumental role in software security management, installation and configuration, deployments and troubleshooting of hardware and software which support business critical applications and endpoint security. Software includes third-party applications on servers and workstations. Hardware includes servers, workstations, and multi-function printers/scanners. This frequently requires afterhours work to satisfy high-availability requirements for the department.

35% Performs technical duties including monitoring information security software, and service calls as escalated from the helpdesk. Completes assigned tasks such as complex hardware and software maintenance activities such as advanced third-party software updates and installations. Monitors security alerts and takes action to remediate any known vulnerability or event. Continually provides technical support as needed to users and various IT personnel.

15% Acts as a consultant to coordinate with vendors to evaluate security related software and hardware for the betterment of the enterprise systems. Assists the networking team to provide and maintain a robust, secure environment. Provides technical advice and assistance to others in the Information technology department to optimize operational efficiencies while maintaining a safe, secure environment.

5% Documents standards and procedures for security applications, third party applications, and endpoint protections.

Functional Requirements:

  • Moderate light lifting, 30 pounds with occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
  • Walking and standing (8 hours).
  • Occasional bending or kneeling.
  • Lifting items such as computer, printer, scanner, or other items used to travel and perform field audits.
  • Sit over a long period of time at workstation or in a vehicle for travel.
  • Drive a vehicle to perform audits and investigations, or hardware installations.
  • Climbing stairs and ladders, reaching above shoulders and carrying specialized equipment needed to perform duties
Environmental Factors:
  • Working indoors and occasionally outdoors.
