Job Description



Duties


As an IT Specialist (DATAMGT), you will:
  • Assist Fiscal Service application developer, network, infrastructure, and platform service personnel with developing solutions for database hosting and DBMS solutions for client/server or mainframe environment applications.
  • Provide around the clock support for platform as a service on Fiscal Service infrastructure as a service. FS supported platform as a service includes: distributed and mainframe database hosting and DBMS solutions for client/server and mainframe applications.
  • Provide incident / problem management for FS supported DBMS technologies. This includes the analysis of incidents to identify the cause; determination of the corrective action(s), and the following implementation of those actions; and the tracking and reporting of the status of the production support utilizing FS\' incident / problem / knowledge management system.
  • Design and develop the requirements for the highest performing / secure distributed and mainframe database infrastructure. This includes: Coordinating with other service line/service owner(s) to procure/acquire necessary hardware/software, working with IT security to configure the infrastructure to best protect sensitive data, creating monitoring and maintenance plans to minimize downtime in relation to the set service level objectives.
  • Provide installation, upgrade, and configuration support for Fiscal Service supported DBMS infrastructure. This includes installing new DBMS software/upgrading existing DBMS software, updating/adding new configurations as necessary to ensure highly available and secure DBMS within the Fiscal Service infrastructure, updating/adding new configurations as necessary to respond to new customer requirements.

Qualifications


You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/day/year, and indicate number of hours worked per week on your resume.

Specialized Experience: For the GS-12, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience assisting with the planning, development, implementation, and administration of oracle database enterprise systems that includes Times Ten in Memory Database versions to ensure optimization of hardware and operating systems.

Examples of such experience could include:
  • Administering, monitoring, performance tuning and troubleshooting, implementing backup and recovery procedures for a database management system in a distributed environment as a database administrator; OR
  • Installing new and upgrading or patching existing Database Management System Software; OR
  • Administering TimesTen replication for highly available architectures, disaster recover or standby sites and distributing data across multiple nodes.

AND
In addition to meeting specialized experience, applicants must have proficiency in each of the four competencies listed below.
  • Attention to Detail, such as supporting metrics collection and reporting in conjunction with service level monitoring.
  • Customer Service, such as providing 24x7 support for Tier 2 Hosting service on Tier 1 platforms.
  • Oral Communication, such as coordinating with the customer to ensure the acceptance environment is adequate for testing.
  • Problem Solving, such as providing incident / problem support for distributed database server technologies.
