Overview:
Are you interested in using digital health technologies to improve healthcare for pediatric patients?


As a PhD IT Project Scientist at Nationwide Children\xe2\x80\x99s Hospital, you will work at the interface between healthcare and technologies such as virtual reality, web and mobile apps, sensors, wearables, voice enabled technologies, and others. Your work has the potential to have a long lasting positive impact on our pediatric patients and help NCH to achieve best outcomes in our care delivery. The IT R&D department has diverse portfolios of innovative projects in domains such as behavioral health, injury research and prevention, rehabilitation, patient experience, patient engagement, and others. These projects are highly collaborative involving internal and external partners in researchers, physicians, clinical informatics, administrators and hospital IS teams.


As a IT project scientist, your role will be to proactively champion health technology innovation through cultivating collaborations with researchers and clinicians. The IT project scientist will design and lead scientific aspects of the technology implementation components of a research project, such as study design, proposal drafting, outcome evaluation, and manuscript writing. Partnering with the lead investigators, you will play a critical role in the overall execution of the project plan, risk mitigation, and scientific outcome. The candidate should have strong interpersonal skills, some project management skills, and the ability to work with technical staff to drive projects forward. The candidate must be able to verbally and visually communicate clearly to all levels of stakeholders.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead in requirement gathering, literature review, scientific merit evaluation, project planning, and project coordination.
  • Lead study design, outcome evaluation, manuscript writing, and proposal writing for informatics section.
  • Document project plan especially scientific direction, anticipate risks, have plan to mitigate risks, and produce time estimates.
  • Work both independently and in small teams to develop scientific/analytic approaches.
  • Work with both clinical and research data while keeping PHI exposure to a need-only basis.
  • Work closely with technical staff and other project team members to integrate technical and scientific approaches seamlessly.
  • Present results internally and externally in forms of presentations, posters, manuscripts, or grant proposals.
  • Seek collaboration and apply for grant funding that align with our project portfolios capabilities and strategic directions.
  • Mentor Project Scientist Associate positions
  • Share knowledge and be a good team player.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by manager.
Qualifications:
KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
  • A PhD in social sciences, biological sciences, healthcare, informatics, or technology
  • 1+ years of postdoctoral or research experience in informatics, design, or technology related areas preferred.
  • Previous scientific publication and grant proposal writing track record.
  • The ability to quickly learn new approaches or apply existing methods to new domains.
  • The ability to learn and apply qualitative and quantitative research methods (eg. interviews, focus groups, usability testing, survey design, implementation and analysis)
  • A collaborative spirit and a team player
  • Experience in both technology and healthcare is a plus
  • The ability to proactively manage and drive projects
  • The ability to write grants and manuscripts (having prior published manuscripts is desirable)
  • Experience in behavioral health is a plus
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with all levels of the organization and external contacts.

MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Typing on a keyboard - Frequently (34-66%)
  • Talking on phone/in person Occasionally (15-33%)
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs. - Occasionally (0-33%)
  • Standing/walking - Occasionally (0-33%)
  • Pressure in this position will vary depending on the workload. The workload will be heavy but manageable most of the time. Pressure may arise in the face of deadlines associated with grants and projects.
