Overview: Responsible for providing effective communication for deaf patients and their caregivers via ASL. Responsible for developing and coordinating effective communication programs for the deaf community via American Sign Language (ASL). Responsibilities:
Coordinates and oversees interpretation services for deaf patients giving priority to emergency and critical situations. Maintains records and documents all activity to include compiling statistical reports. Participates in interdisciplinary team rounds and conferences as needed. Develops and facilitates a plan for active community outreach with the deaf community in the Beebe Healthcare service area. Assists with departmental activities and coverage. Develops and facilitates team member education as needed. Maintains a working relationship with ASL Vendor such as Definitions and maintains ASL interpreter schedule and calendar for sending interpreter requests to the Vendor. Other duties as assigned.

Skills

Clear communication skills written, verbal, and American Sign Language Able to keep confidential information regarding patients and team members Able to withstand crisis situations Skills to provide customer service to patients, team members, and visitors Proficient in Microsoft programs to include Word and Excel

Experience & Education Required

Bachelor's degree in related field Familiarity with deaf culture Ability to obtain National Interpreter Certification (NIC) from the Registry for the Interpreters of the Deaf (RID)
