Position Announcement

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Utah Tech University invites applicants for a tenure track position in inorganic chemistry at the Assistant Professor level beginning Fall Semester 2024. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry or a closely related field; experience teaching at the undergraduate level; experience mentoring undergraduate students in research; and a commitment to working with students from diverse backgrounds. Responsibilities

  • Design and teach a two-semester lecture and lab sequence in inorganic chemistry, and the option to teach advanced course in the area of the applicant\'s expertise.
  • Teach introductory or general chemistry courses. Teaching load is 24 credits per academic year, or 12 credits in Fall Semester and 12 credits in Spring Semester.
  • Supervise and mentor undergraduate students in research and experiential-learning projects.
  • Perform defined faculty duties, including holding office hours, attendance at department and division meetings, and adherence to college, division, and University policies and procedures.
  • Participate in service activities for the department, University, and the local community.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry or closely related field required; advanced training beyond Ph.D. is preferred.
  • Strong commitment to teaching twelve (12) credits per semester.
  • Awareness of pedagogical best practices and ongoing commitment to developing and maintaining knowledge in applicant\'s area of expertise.
  • Demonstrated strong potential for excellence in teaching and mentoring undergraduate students.
  • Commitment to developing an undergraduate research program within the applicant\'s expertise.
  • Commitment to engage with colleagues, staff and administrators to develop ways to improve the educational experience for our students.
Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time (9-month) tenure-track faculty position. Faculty service begins August 2024, with pay and benefits starting July 1, 2024. Annual salary of $59,000 - $63,000, depending on qualifications and experience, with additional compensation available for optional summer/overload teaching.
