Job Summary: Coordinate, monitor, and evaluate the operation of the Infection Prevention Department at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (Main Campus). The manager serves as a subject matter expert who oversees infection surveillance and analysis to advance operational performance related to infections. This leader manages day to day operations for the infection prevention program. This includes ensuring appropriate data are collected and reported to national public reporting organization(s) in a timely manner. In addition, this individual is expected to maintain a skillset and competency to actively practice in the daily function of an Infection Preventionist.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership

  • Develop work goals and objectives for the department based on interpretation of institutional policy and goals.
  • Plan to achieve goals or establish priorities, departmental and supportive of the Infection Prevention goals for VUMC.
  • Be a leader and consultant for Infection Prevention related initiatives and projects across VUMC.
  • Participate in QSRP leadership meetings and collaborate with fellow quality and safety leaders.
  • Collaborate with leadership for Infection Prevention in developing strategies, improvement actions and other interventions to achieve institutional infection prevention goals.
  • Create an organizational culture (both within and across departments) that provides a safe, satisfying, and enriching environment for employees and provides a qualified, competent staff to meet patient needs.
  • Model behavior consistent with the mission, vision, and values of the enterprise through leading, coordinating projects, innovation, initiating improvement, and developing new programs.

Financial and Budgetary
  • Define and achieve financial targets for the unit/area, consistent with the departmental financial plan.
  • Aid in the implementation, interpretation and presentation of annual wage and salary plan to staff.
Departmental Operations and Management
  • Mentor infection prevention personnel to achieve and maintain certification in infection control and prevention (if applicable).
  • Ensure the most effective operations of the department through program development, process improvement and coordination/integration of processes with other departments.
  • Participate in departmental operations through activities, such as surveillance, rounding, and analysis of hospital acquired infection data.
  • Oversee validation of infection prevention related data for submission.
  • Actively participates in system-wide infection prevention collaborations.
  • Mentors the infection prevention team members on healthcare-associated infection (HAI) definitions and any annual definition modifications within the National Healthcare Surveillance Network.
  • Leads/supervises analysis of HAI events and trends for root causes and develops action plans to mitigate future patient harm.
  • Oversee the Infection Prevention Team\xe2\x80\x99s role in construction risk analysis by recommending construction and renovation barriers to ensure the proper level of infection prevention controls are identified and maintained.
  • Collaborate with leaders and escalates concerns regarding infection prevention.
  • Standardize services, processes, resources, and practice to improve efficiency.
  • Adjust personnel work schedules or project priorities to meet emergencies or changing conditions.
  • Participate on departmental and/or interdepartmental committees to address problems and facilitate information exchange about programs, problems, etc. Provide information to others (oral or written) to explain/clarify problems, issues, or requests.
  • Ensures all Human Resource and VUMC policies and procedures are followed according to standards.
Qualifications: Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree and 3 years of relevant infection prevention experience. Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) required. Experience in Quality Improvement preferred.
