Job Description


The employee would be responsible for determining eligibility for income maintenance programs for Medicaid Long Term Care, Special Assistance, etc., for the Surry County Department of Social Services. Work involves interviewing new applicants, obtaining required verifications, and determining initial and / or maintaining an ongoing caseload of public assistance cases. Work involves direct contact with customers seeking assistance from the department for their families, referring to community resources, speaking with medical providers, employers, and other collaterals in the course of performing job functions. Income Maintenance caseworkers use computer hardware and software and enter data collected from customers in determining eligibility. Employees are representing the agency to the public and eligibility decisions commit the department to providing customers with public assistance. Employees must possess a good knowledge of income maintenance programs and community resources. Employees must be able to read, analyze, and interpret regulations and resolve complex issue while working within timeframes.

For an Income Maintenance Caseworker III - Two years of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required.
